I do not believe any of the schools I have attended have been segregated. I never experienced discrimination in school. Growing up in Salinas it was a predominantly Hispanic community which now that I see everything from an outside view I can see how different communities have different opportunities when it comes to education.

I am from Aptos, CA and am writing about Aptos High School. In terms of classes and the academic aspect of school it was not very segregated. However, it seemed that my school was subtly segregated in terms of social groups. It was common for people of similar economic backgrounds, race, culture, or other aspects of their identity to hang out in their own groups, and did not often mix or branch outside of those groups.

I am from seaside ca I went to school in Monterey California. I believe it all depended on which part. For me I didn’t experience this in the class room but I noticed with sports there was more of a favored sport over others which led to more funding for that sport and support from the school in general. I saw an unfair support towards me and a student where it ended in sadly being chosen by specific white staff and coaches.

In elementary school, I do not think my school was “segregated.” Although, I was very ignorant about what was going on in the world when I was that young so if a student was treated differently than others, I may have not noticed. I did notice some students in Middle School though getting picked on by teachers for acting out, but, now that I know what I do about developing students, they may have been acting out because of their home or economic life. I think that is the only possible situation I have encountered during my school experience.
