Culture - How you grow up and what religion you may or may not believe in can alter your beliefs on the paranormal. Some religions are very against or have strong beliefs in ghosts or spirits.

Environmental - If you are in a certain place or time, you may feel as if a house is haunted based on it looking like a haunted house you've seen before. A time of day like 3 am is considered a paranormal time, so people will be anxious or scared.

Culture: Culture may play a role in someone that claims to experiencing paranormal activity. The reason for this may be due to their connection to the afterlife or death in general.
Environmental: People in different regions are more likely to see spirts that are native to their area. Like a ghost that's known to haunt a certain place, or a well known spirit. People might say, "there is a reporting of hauntings in that house, it is an old grandma", then people may find themselves looking for grandmas. Or like how regions have their own folklore and monsters, for example teh chupacabra.
