The section we read was about a young girl who I can assume is about twelve years old. She has been living in room and board with her mama for years, only to learn that kids are rotten. Her mama is a maid and gets room and board for free, but who she is working for now doesn’t allow kids, so Turtle is going to live with an aunt she has never met before, named Minerva. This story takes place during The Dust Bowl, so Turtle’s mama just won’t stop talking about how lucky she is to have a home and job, but Turtle is questioning how lucky she is, moving away from her mama. Turtle is moving to Key West and has no idea what life will be like there.

So marcel goes to his grandmothers house, but he comes across a ginger cat.
Marcel swerves so he doesn’t hit the cat, and a girl comes to grab the cat.
Marcel thinks the girl is pretty but he doesn’t really like girls because he thinks they’re bossy, annoying, and he doesn’t think they like bicycles.
So Marcel goes to his grandmothers house and she is glad that Marcel delivered the bread.

He was resistant for a little while then gave in. On his way to deliver the bread Marcel almost ran into a ginger colored cat the owner of the cat ran into the street to get the cat. Once he delivered the bread to his grandma he wanted to ride his bike more so he told his mom he gave his grandma the bread and kept riding. Marcel felt like the little town was a lot different with all the France and German soldiers scattered around. When he was riding on a bridge a French soldier stoped him for a second then let him go. After he got home his parents asked him if he ran into any soldiers he said he ran into a French one on the bridge.

Once the three of them returned home, Kirsty and Annemarie told their mother what had happened on their way back.

Today we figured out that Milada isn’t a Jew. What happened at the end of the story was that Milada heard a loud knock on the door. I think that it is the Nazis and that her family is in trouble for a reason that we do not know yet. I think the reason is that the adults did something against the Nazis that the kids don’t know about. I think that Eva’s parents and her are going to jail, or worse a concentration camp.

Turtle has arrived in the paradise of Key West, but it’s not as much as a paradise as her mama has said all her life. The houses are narrow and are lined up close with no front yard. Today, we read chapter three of Turtle in Paradise. A connection I made is in GT I am studying the Wall Street Crash of 1929. In chapter three, Turtle meets Aunt Minerva (or Aunt Minnie) and her three children. One kid is four, one is ten or eleven, and the oldest is named Beans. Beans is obnoxious and has a gang called The Diaper Gang. His gang goes around caring for “bad babies” and changes diapers. This book takes place during The Great Depression, and my text-to-world is The Great Depression was actually like this for the people with less money, and although Turtle’s mom and her boyfriend have more money than other people, The Great Depression is still a big part of their lives. While he is procrastinating his work, he decides to kiss his reflection, as he does this, his lips become frozen to the mirror. In this session I read that Marcel is going to school and has two best friends Arnaud and Guillaume. Arnaud like to race Marcel and Arnaud usually wins. During recess Marcel and Arnaud play chess against another, Arnaud wins. But for the bike race that afternoon Delphine the girl wanted in on the bike race, Delphine ended up winning the race and beat Arnaud and Marcel. After he got home his parents wanted him to do another errand to give bread to his uncle and aunt. His mom wanted him not to stay at their house long and get home quick.

With the 70 pages I’ve read in The Bicycle Spy the summary I can say is this. Marcel the main character loves to bike and lives above a bakery. He has been delivering bread to his relatives which he found out has notes inside. Marcel didn’t tell his parents that he found them and realized that they were part of the resistance. The next day he went to school and he met up with his friends and saw the new girl. His friend thought her name was Delphine and he was correct. Delphine was really smart and answered all the questions correct except religion. During recess she showed everyone a book with all the Tour De France winners and some other things. Then after school when Marcel and his friend were about to race on their bikes Delphine wanted in open the race. Delphine won the race and surprised everyone. The next day he told her to meet him at a barn where they could talk. Delphine arrived on a bike and they became friends. After a couple days of doing that he told her that his parents were part of the resistance and she told him that she was a Jew from France and they moved because it was really violent there and people were being sent to concentration camps and they had to wear a yellow band with a star on it. When they left Marcel came across guards and eavesdropped on them and heard that they will double check the people who came into this town in the last 18 months.

Reshmina and her family did not but they still searched their house. Besides the soldiers an afghan woman came in. She was a translator helping the soldiers. When Reshmina saw her she found out she really wanted to become a translator. After they left her house she chased after the translator. When chasing her that is when she heard gunshots. After the gunshots and explosions were over Reshmina went outside. She heard a groan and it turned out to be a wounded bleeding American soldier.

Marcel a young boy who lives in France have to deliver bread to his aunt and uncles house but he gets stopped by a German soldier and he asks what is in his basket and the soldier asks for some bread so marcel gives it to him.
Marcel eats some other bread and eats a whole loaf.
But Marcel is still hungry but when he bites into the bread something stops him in the piece of bread.
It is a note and it said something about a picnic Marcel assumes
that it is code for something and also thinks his parents are in the french resistance. So Marcel has to keep this a secret.
Marcel puts the note in the other piece of bread and burns the bottom so his aunt and uncle wont think anything weird happened. Marcel later almost runs over a girls cat then goes back home after apologizing. Then later Marcel finds out that girl is in his class, then finds out her name is Delphine and Delphine and Marcel become friends. A few days later German officers talk to Delphine and she gets scared Because she’s Jewish and Delphine isn’t her real name its fake so the soldiers don’t take her and her parents away.

They explain that they were just trying to have fun they all say and the officer tells them not too run again because he thinks that girls should not exercise as much as men do so they stop and run home.
The second and third chapter is mainly about Annemarie’s sister breaks a button on her jacket and they go to fix it but the lady who. Works there is gone and the store is closed so they can’t get it fixed.
Next Ellen comes over to Annemarie’s house to stay there for a few nights because there was a battle and her parents were involved in it so she stays there for a few nights. In the book Number the Stars, Ellen and Annemarie, have a race the corner. All of a sudden two Nazis soldiers block their way asking why they were running, and Annemarie stated that they were having a race to the corner. When they returned home from school, they told their parents what had happened. Then Annemarie had a flashback of when her father told her about their king. Later Kirsty’s button broke so after school that day the two girls took Kirsty to get her button fixed, only to find out that the lady who fixed the buttons was not there and there was a sign on the door in German. Then one day while Ellen and Annemarie were playing with dolls, Kirsty walks in complaining about how her shoes were made of fish skin and they were green, so Ellen promised that her father could make then black with her ink. After hearing some bad news, Annemarie said that she didn’t want to play with the dolls anymore, and Ellen said that she at to go back to her house to clean up for the Jewish New Years. The Next day, Ellens mom told Annemarie’s mom that they couldn’t come over for New Years because she needed to go to a different house, and that Ellen would have to stay there because Nazis were rounding up Jews that night. Then Papa told them to go to sleep and they were talking about Lise and how she died.
