There, he learned how to play the cornet, and became the leader of the Waif's Home Brass Band. After his release from the home, he wanted to become a professional musician. At age 23, he married and set out on his own, no longer wanting to play under Joe "King" Oliver. He formed the Hot Five - which was late the Hot Seven - and began making records. Louis went to New York, where he made music on Broadway, and began touring. He didn't stop touring until his death in 1971.
