I really wanted to use book pages and my source of text because I really like reading and it adds some reality to a painting of a mystic forest. I chose to work with acrylic paint because I used it in the street art project and I really liked how I could blend colors easily and how vibrant the colors turned out to be. What artistic struggles did you learn from?  As you pursue art for pleasure or maybe even as a future career, what subjects or new approaches would you like to try?

I think my most significant area of growth is with shading my artwork. I believe from my Chair Project, to the Botanic Gardens drawings, to my Face Project, my shading has improved a lot with making my piece look more natural. I also think my shading improved the realism of each piece as I got better at it. What I struggled a lot with was switching materials. I used acrylic paint for the Street and the Text project, but for the Face Project, I wanted to try something new, so I choose oil pastels. I really struggled trying to blend the oil pastels and working with it to get the visual that I had imagined. However, I think I will want to use oil pastels again next semester to get better at it and learn how to work with it better. A new approach I would like to try is incorporating different aspects of nature into my pieces. I really love nature, and in every project I've done so far, I've included some feature of nature, but mostly only water and trees. Next semester, I'd like to pursue trying to draw other angles of nature, such as outer space, the artic, or the desert.

Then, further along in the song, it gets a bit louder and the music becomes more complicated, so I began evolutionizing my simple flowers into more unique, exotic flowers. As the song concludes, the instruments get deeper and more darker, so I created dusky, jungle leaves. It took me a week to draw and complete shade, and I think it turned out really well. I think the amount of different colors I was able to get out of red, yellow, white, and black made the flower to be really special and I like how there aren't any harsh lines between the pedals because like the sun, we don't see harsh lines when looking into it. One thing that I have learned in this project is how difficult it is to create a variety of colors using just red, yellow, blue, black, and white, but how it is possible and it takes a lot of work, especially on colored paper. I also learned it makes the piece more beautiful because I had to work harder to achieve the colors I wanted without using the actual color of the pastel. A tip I would give to another artist when creating a piece like this is do not over blend with oil pastel. I am very guilty of this and it actually makes it a lot harder to blend, especially on the black paper.
