         <description><![CDATA[<div>The novel Ghost Boys is deemed an informational text because all informational text have to be nonfiction. This novel focuses on Jerome a twelve-year-old who is shot by a police officer who mistakes his toy gun as a real one.</div><div><br> As Jerome wanders as a ghost and sees how his death has affected his community and family. He meets another ghost: Emmett Till, a boy from a very different time but similar circumstances. Emmett helps Jerome process what has happened, on a journey towards recognizing how historical racism may have contributed to his ultimate demise.<br><br>The novel “Ghost Boys” written by Jewell Parker Rhodes exemplifies appropriateness of text for our middle school students because of the Lexile score this novel is scored as HL360.          <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Students will be exposed to the horrendous fate of Emmett Till, and gather a better understanding of historical racism and brutality against African-Americans in the United States during the 1950s. Scholars can create a Venn diagram and compare and contrast Emmett Till and Jerome. The  Flesch Reading Ease score<strong>:</strong> 62.6 (text scale) and it rated my overall text as standard / average. This is a great resource for my 7th grade students to grasp and encourage them to learn more about one of our characters within the novel Ghost Boys.<br><br></div>]]></description>
