The Westfield High School AI deepfake incident caused severe psychological harm, stripping victims of their trust, safety, and mental well-being. In one disturbing case, New Jersey teenagers used AI to create non-consensual deepfake pornography of an underage classmate, sharing the images via group chat—a moral violation and criminal offense. Such exploitation demands legal consequences to hold perpetrators accountable and prevent future abuses. The school must act decisively by offering immediate counseling to victims, enforcing strict disciplinary actions, and implementing digital ethics education. Without accountability and preventive measures, these incidents will perpetuate a toxic environment where privacy and dignity are disregarded. Restoring a safe, respectful school climate requires not only punishment but proactive education to ensure students understand the severe consequences of misusing technology.

With the fast grow of AI technology, deepfakes are becoming more advanced and realistic. They

are used to create fake videos, images or voices that look and sound real. This can confuse

people and make them believe in false informations. For example, in 2024, a fake robocall used an AI voice to sound like Joe Biden. It told people not to vote in the U.S. primary election.

Another case happened in Slovakia in 2023, where an audio made with AI said a politician

wanted to cheat. Both cases show that deepfakes can change people’s opinion and affect

democracy. Because of that, people should be careful when they watch, read or share online

content. It’s important to check the source and think if the information is really true. Technology

companies also need to create tools to detect fake AI content. If we don’t do this, deepfakes will

continue to be dangerous for society and personal safty.

The spread of deepfakes has been increasing rapidly over the years. Although the internet has great potential to help us in many tasks, it also poses major risks to contemporary society. This is due to the wide range of tools that allow manipulation of images or audio with the intent to harm people. Our group supports the criminalization of the misuse of this technology, since deepfakes serve only to defame and spread fake news about specific situations, undermining trust in the media. This causes people to stop using these platforms because they become too dangerous. Therefore, anyone who creates or even shares such content should be punished with severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines, Just like other forms of digital crime, such as fraud or invasion of privacy, the malicious use of deepfakes must be combated with clear and effective laws to ensure safety and justice in the virtual environment.

Deepfakes are contents manipulated by artificial intelligence that imitate human faces, voices and expressions with frightening realism. Although this technology can have positive uses, such as in entertainment or accessibility, it has been widely used maliciously - to create fake videos, defame people, spread disinformation and invade victims' privacy.

In the political field, the risks are even greater. Deepfakes can be used to fake candidates' speeches or attitudes, manipulate the electorate and interfere in elections. In addition, they allow politicians to deny real statements, claiming that they have been falsified. This weakens public trust, undermines democracy and opens up space for disinformation to spread with even greater force. It is urgent to create laws, detection tools and digital education to combat the irresponsible use of this technology.
