When teaching someone a language, you want to start easy! Some easy steps you can start with is teaching the person the alphabet of the language they are wanting to learn. After the alphabet, you can start with simple, everyday phrases they might need to use. For example you can have them start practicing their name, or how to say hi how are you in the desired language.

activities you can try yourself, or in your future classroom!

Starting from the very bottom and really struggling at first will help you remember more things in the long run- doing extra practices at home, or trying to get out of your comfort zone and break down words you can try and figure out in another language. You can never go wrong with FLASHCARDS! When using flashcards, it gives the brain a break down of the word, while also providing an image in your head that will allow you to make certain connections.

Another activity you can do, either at home or in the classroom is role playing- in any scenario, like being at the store, getting groceries, etc. you and another person in the class can start having conversationg- that also helps not being nervous and being okay with messing up, since the other person is learning everything with you!

Lastly, another idea could be I spy with items in the classroom and or hiding items and then having to figure out what that item is in your language, finding the item, and being able to see a sticky note on it with the correct word!

Practicing in the real world!

In the real world, you can start by having them mimic easy conversations with someone. You want to make sure that you are using good pronunciation when talking with that person. Another thing you can try is having them order at a restaurant (easy). When teaching them how to learn a language, you want to be as visual as possible, so every little thing you're starting to show them, should be tied in with a picture. You want to connect the language they are learning with the language they already know.
