It allowed soldiers to kill more than one enemy in a short amount of time, and it also made it so that they did not have to reload after every single shot. Both sides of the trenches had them, so it was effective for everyone. It required six men to operate the machine, but it was very effective when it was used right.

A stalemate was when neither side won the battle. It basically happened when both trenches were not making any progress in the war. When they were fighting from trenches, sometimes no one was killed so they sat there for days and made little to no progress. They had to get creative in order to hurt the other trench.

When American soldiers returned from the war, their mental health wasn’t very good. They said that it took some time for them to get used to the fact that they had a future. Most of the soldiers did not want to be enlisted after the war ended, so they made their points to some commanding officers and demanded that they got paid and were sent home. Most of them also couldn’t find work, so they had a hard time getting back to a normal life.
