During this quote the book is explaining what happened after world war 1 to Germany. I chose this quote because I had a question for it. I do not understand how 4.2 billion German marks could only equal 1 American dollar. they would have to be worthless then. I also wondered if it was worthless in American money why did people have to carry it around in wheelbarrows in Germany. wouldn't the currency stay the same.

During this quote it is talking about how people didn't really know what was going on with the Jews. This quote made a powerful moment with me and I had a connection with it. It was powerful to me that people didn't know what exactly what was going on in their own country. They didn't know that jews were being killed and murdered. I also had a connection with the quote because I have before heard something and believed it without questioning it.

During this quote people are ransacking jewish things. I chose this quote for 2 reasons. 1 was because it was a powerful moment because it showed to me how 1 leader can turn a whole country against a race of people. The second reason I chose it was because I had a question for it. My question was why or how did people believe so hard to destroy the jewish culture.

In this quote a student asked Alfons if he would have killed Helen if he was ordered to. I chose this quote because I made a connection. sometimes with my parents they tell me to do something and I have to do it without arguing because it is the rule and they are in charge.

In this quote Helen brought Alfons to a holocaust survivor meeting with her and people did not look at him and did not speak to him. It was a powerful moment because the meeting took 20-30 years after the holocaust and they still were either scared or mad at the nazis.

Before this quote it had just explained what was happening on the night of broken glass. I chose this quote because I had a question. I do not understand how Hitler wouldn't understand why people would think negative about the night of broken glass. The people did. not know what exactly was going on so they wouldn't know why this was happening.

During this quote Germany went into Poland and started a war. I chose this because it was a powerful moment because it shows how hitler and his people brainwashed the hitler youth to believe what he believed. They made Alfons believe that the poles mistreated the Germans when they might not have but they said they did to get them on the nazis side.

During this quote Alfons talks about how he felt in his fist lecture. I chose the quote because it is powerful. It’s powerful because he expected people to have hatred towards him but instead they appreciated him talking to them. It’s also powerful because the peoplepraised him for talking about it and it can show people change.

In this quote Helen talks about her life during the holocaust and what happened. I chose it because it is powerful. It shows power because Helen talks about her life but she shows no emotion about it. She kept it cool and showed no emotion which is hard because it’s her life and it was sad which you should have emotion of.

During this quote Alfons talks about how he realizes he was brainwashed as a child by the nazis. I chose this because my question for it is how did he not realize he was being used at a younger age. It seems so easy to realize it but he didn’t and I wanted to know how he didn’t or if he did did he not care about it.
