The author’s thoughts and argument about adulthood are…

In the NPR recording "Brain Maturity Extends Well Beyond the Teen Years." Emma believes that brain maturity ends at the age of 25 not 18.

two powerful quotes from this source

"20 year old is 50 percent more likely to do something risky if two friends are watching than if he's alone."(AAMODT)

"Obviously some 18 year olds are competent to go out into the world and handle things by themselves and some of them aren't. It would be nice if we had a little more flexibility to distinguish the two in the legal system."(AAMODT)

Your thoughts on the article (analysis)

I think with more research coming out about brain development it makes sense that they would find out that brain fully develops at 25.

Does it link to anything we have read this year? If so, explain the connection.

When AAMODT talks about how some 18 year olds are more more mature then others, I think that this relates back to Justyce and how he is more mature towards the end of the book then some adults and kids his age. Especially when Justyce talks with his mom about SJ and that he had made up his mind.

According to the New York Times article "When are you really an adult?" by Maria Cramer, The brain is not fully developed until 25 psychology professor Apryl Alexander questions how young people should be punished in the criminal justice system.
“We’re constantly trying to balance the rights to protection and the rights to participation,” said Ms. Binford who is a law professor at Willamette University.
“It’s interesting these are people who work full-time jobs, pay their own rent, pay taxes and are eligible to vote,” she said. “Yet none of this constitutes adequate proof that a person is responsible enough to drink.” - Charlotte Lawson a 21 year old student.
I think this article has some good points in the area of how if you do taxes, pay rent, and have a full time job then you should be treated as an adult, it also depends on if you yourself are mature enough to handle being an adult.
This relates back to dear Justyce when Justyce has to find out who he is and be mature for example when he tells his mom about SJ. So I do think that being an adult is acting like an adult.

In the article "What can you do at 18 legally?" published by The Law Dictionary, the writer states that turning 18 is a big milestone is a person's life. They also mention the new responsibilities and freedom that come along with this change.
"You are legally responsible for all of your actions, assets, and decisions."(The Law Dictionary.) "When you turn 18, you can get married without parental approval in 48 of the 50 states. Mississippi requires you to be 21, and Nebraska requires you to be 19 before you can get married without parental consent."(The Law Dictionary.)
This article again touches on the fact that becoming 18 comes with many responsibilities and more freedom but these freedoms come with maturity because your actions will have greater consequences.
In the book Dairy Part Time Indian, Junior shows maturity when he goes to his new school thats full of people who dont look at him the same. Junior also faces hate by his own tribe for going to this new school but Junior overcomes these problems.
