On august 11 2020 people were very excited and worried for the release of the newest halo. On its release it got delayed and many fans believe that it was a necessary delay to make sure that the game lives up to its name and produces the best sales but other fans believe it was unnecessary to delay and the company is currently losing money by delaying. I believe that it is necessary to delay the release because most games who release before a game is ready underperform and the company is forced to return money to buyers as well as losing its reputation in the gaming industry. -Andrew

In 2019, the US Open in Queens, New York, drew an all-time record crowd: 737,872 fans passed through the gates of the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. I remember joining a line snaking through half the grounds to — fingers crossed — get a seat in the 10,000-person Louis Armstrong Court. There, packed in like sardines, atmosphere was raucous, wild, and electric. Fast-forward twelve months, and such a scenario seems almost impossible. At the 2020 Open was played in a bubble before empty stands; the 2021 Australian Open allowed limited fans (before a mid-tournament lockdown) and forced players into strict two week quarantines. As the world begins to cautiously open up again, players and fans alike debate the possibility of a professional tour in a truly global sport. The mens and womens professional tennis tours should establish 3 “bubble sites” at which they will play all 60+ tournaments — doing so is not only economical and practical, but necessary to maintain public health during a global pandemic.

In the early 1800s, the United States had adopted slavery. The harsh and forced labor of captured individuals from Africa seemed like the main staple of “American” toil. Decades go by of white individuals detaining black individuals; solely for the purpose of doing the hard labor that was necessary for the upkeep of farms and plantations. Soon, the adaption of slave patrol and night watches was implemented into the fast-growing enslavement. The patrol services and night watchers quickly became the modern police force. In order to control the minorities being taken into America, these departments were designated as slave patrols. Up until the former president– Abraham Lincoln– denounced slavery in 1863, these departments heavily relied on the protection of slavery. Ever since the police system has been created, there has been significant influence and practices that follow the old system of slavery patrol. This has implanted subconscious racism and the promotion of inequalities in American police departments. Therefore, the US police system at the federal and state levels should be reformed. This will allow citizens to feel protected-not targeted- by police, ensure greater use of police forces in a more practical matter, and provide equality for discriminated minorities.

In 2019, everybody was living their lives and traveling around the world and businesses were open. I was able to do anything that I wanted. I was able to hang out with friends, travel freely, go out to eat anywhere, and live a normal life. Then March 13th, 2020, all that came to an end. The Covid 19 virus hit the United States and the people of America were told that we had to stay in our houses until April 6th. Business, schools, and travel were shut down and people couldn't do anything. This is still going on today, but some companies have made the Covid vaccine and have been released at the beginning of the year of 2021. The Covid 19 Vaccine distribution is lacking and we need to focus on making distribution faster- we can do this by rolling out the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, get more companies to roll out one dose vaccines, and focus more on distribution As more days go on with covid more and more people can be immune and go out and live their lives and open business again.

On the 12th of March 2020, there were rumors of not going back to school until after spring break. In the moment when the news of this actually happening started to spread it seemed surreal, yet students were excited. Three weeks that’s what it was supposed to be, but it turned into the rest of the year. This was the start of online school becoming a norm and the decline of mental health. Now in March of 2021 some are dealing with online school still and the after affects of it. Lacking social interaction, feeling isolated, and constantly behind in school due to lack of motivation are just a few effects of online school causing mental health to suffer with very limited options that can be very difficult to access or just not helpful in general. Due to online school mental health is declining and there need to be alternate options for help — this will help students’ mental health while keeping Covid-19 cases down. School is hard enough as is and due to online learning it just gets harder. Collectively mental health in general is suffering greatly, yet due to the pandemic there aren’t many options for help.

In 1776, America — a newly formed nation — came into existence. Thirteen years later, America ratified the constitution, which has been in effect since then. The founding fathers had set up the nation with a radically new form of government in the modern world: democracy. Shortly after the constitution started, political parties and factions also started. In George Washington’s Farewell Address, he urged Americans to avoid forming political parties because they would cause a great division among Americans. Despite the warnings, political parties formed. For nearly two centuries, the major parties have cooperated with each other to some extent; however, in modern times, this is not the case. In the 2020 U.S. election, there was a great display of the two political parties, Democrats and Republicans, fighting tooth and nail against each other. America, in recent times, is becoming more polarized politically because of differences in regional, cultural, ideological, and moral differences. Acknowledging this growing problem is essential so Americans can find solutions to work together and respect other’s opinions.

I remember sitting at home during lockdown and scrolling through the countless amount of posts related to Black Lives Matter. The internet became heated with everyone sharing their different opinions on the topic. No one could open up their apps without seeing a grand amount of BLM hashtags and posts pop up. The posts allowed people to express their support and feelings about the movement. The Black Lives Matter movement is proactive by making the public aware of the hardships blacks go through; the unfair treatment of blacks including unequal treatment in law, opportunities, and how they are viewed is brought to the attention of the public from this movement. Blacks have been a huge influence in our world today and deserve to be treated with just.

March first two-thousand and twenty few Ohioans had ever heard on the director of the Department of Health Dr. Amy Acton. Within A few weeks, every single person in Ohio's life was directly affected by her actions. Personally, I remember March twelfth the day that all schools in the state of Ohio were shut down for the year. I couldn’t believe that just like that school was over and we had to transition to online learning. Within the coming weeks business, places of worship, and parks were all shut down for the good of the public. With the say of just a few individuals, the lives of millions were affected. Our government was founded, in part, to distance ourselves from tyranny, But it seems we have fallen into that trap handing too much power to only a few people. A single government official should not have the power to shut down entire states due to health risk - Although this one person can make decisions faster these decisions violate the checks and balances of our governmental system, hands one person too much power, and leaves the common man behind in important decisions. With decisions that will affect the life of every single constituent in an area, all branches of governments should get involved to do what is truly best for their people and what they are allowed to do under their constitution.

In the past year, a new virus has struck causing worldwide illness and unemployment rates to increase. Covid-19 has forced several places like restaurants, offices, schools, and other various locations to close for a time or even shut down completely due to the lack of money to keep the place going. This has caused millions to lose their jobs and not be able to work meaning there is less money available to them. Just recently, scientists have developed two new vaccines to potentially stop the spread of the virus. However, it was created and released in such a short amount of time, so can we really be sure of how effective it really is? Covid vaccines aren't as safe as everybody thinks. Many research has shown various cases of severe symptoms such as high fevers, worse cases of the virus, and even death, especially with those who have other health problems. Why should everybody be expected to get the shot if people don't understand the risks and health problems nor what may be contained in it? We can simply say no to the vaccines.

This led to many people being hesitant to invest in this new form of currency. In 2010, the price for one Bitcoin, a popular form of cryptocurrency, was $0.08 per coin. In 2018, the price of bitcoin was $3,732.04 and it was starting to gain recognition. Fast forward to 2021, bitcoin is now priced at $57,069.10 per coin. Due to its popularity, ease of use and overall benefit, cryptocurrency should be accepted by stores around the world and by online merchants.

The movement is the largest in US History since the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. The main drive of this movement to end police brutality against African-American people. It has been shown in cases like Trayvon Martin or Breonna Taylor, that police brutality is a real problem and African Americans are the most harmed by it. The Black Lives Movement is geared to bring attention to not only police brutality, but help bring equal rights to all African-Americans.

Drugs have always been a problem, especially for the law. Since 1971, the war on drugs has been locked in a seemingly endless battle against illegal substances like Marijuana and Cocaine. Though this stops drugs from being used, it has also caused many issues to come up. Oregon has legalized possession of small amounts of hard drugs, and this is the right thing. This will prevent innocent addicts from going to prison and instead, receive treatment. This will also lessen the pressure on the prison system. This topic is important because drugs have affected people in various ways, most of them being negative. Going to prison isn’t going to stop addicts from being addicted but treatment will help.

On January 6th, 2021 the U.S Capitol was invaded for the first since 1814 when british troops burned the Capitol building. The chaos at the capitol started after donald trump gave his “fight speech” during the rally, causing democrats to take that personally and into action. He used the word “fight” in his speech twenty times upsetting many people. This had to be intended to cause violence. It also has to be likely to cause violence. While he did not explicitly call for violence, Trump should have chosen his words more carefully. He said we have to fight and show strength, but he also said we’re very peacefully and patriotically going to ask, so that he is covering himself. There is some discussion that government leaders have more leeway. Trump knew there were people in that crowd ready to be violent, and did nothing to discourage that. Not only did he not discourage it, he hinted that it should happen. Therefore, he should be tried in court.

Millions of people were excited to see Harry and Meghan get married on May 19, 2018, finally the so-called former party prince get married to not only a beautiful woman but a divorced mixed-raced American named Meghan Markle. Though only a little after two years of marriage Meghan and Harry announced after a media tabloid circus and scandals and racism surrounding the couple that they would be stepping back eventually announcing their departure from the UK and the royal family. In this paper, I will be giving the reasons why I think this couple made the right decision to head stage west to the United States and leave their royal life behind in the UK. This is important because Meghan and Harry have and are changing the way people view the British Royal Family and the monarchy.

When the pandemic hit it really opened my eyes and showed me how much we take for granted. Because of the pandemic, many problems started to appear. And it is crazy to think how many of these problems have used social media as a solution. Social media has been a very helpful tool and a benefit to people during the Covid-19 pandemic. Social media has helped business marketing, people staying connected to one another, providing solutions to problems, and helping to educate the public on information about the pandemic. Everyone in the world is going through this together, and we are seeing many negatives, but social media shows there are some benefits to the pandemic.

-leah
