When I was a toddler, I had my first major injury. I tripped and fell on my face, knocking out my two front teeth. Since at that time I didn't know how to catch myself when i'm falling, which is the why I knocked my teeth out, I had to go to occupational therapy for the next few years. While I was there, I learned basic athleticism like balancing and bodily coordination so that I could participate in sports. This is important to me because it is the first major challenge that I had to overcome in my life.

I started playing sports when I was around the age of 3 when my parents got me into Taekwondo, then later football, basketball, golf, baseball, gymnastics and swimming. Playing sports has allowed me to enhance my athletic ability and create relationships that last for a lifetime. I have met some of my best friends through playing sports, whom I still talk to today. Some of my core memories in life are through the playing sports and the relationships created while playing sports. I am very appreciative for my parents getting me into sports because it has brought a whole lot of happiness to our family.

6th grade was one of the roughest academic years for me. I went from starting school at 8:30 with little to no homework in 5th grade to starting school before the crack of dawn with more than 4 hours worth of homework in 6th grade. This year I learned a lot about myself academically which would play a major role in the things that I did in 7th grade.

7th grade was the year that I started doing physical activity right after school. I would go to the gym 3 days a week and practice baseball 2 days a week. I learned that I actually focus on my homework better after I do physical activity because I'm not too energetic so I don't focus on my work. That year I went from over 4 hours of homework a night to 2 hours each day because I was able to focus better. It also helped me on the baseball field because all the work I put in led to the best offensive season of my life. That spring, I had a batting average of .609, reached base safely in every game, and I didn't drop below the #4 spot in the starting lineup.

The first few years of the Covid pandemic was a time in which I showed a ton of resilience because of all the changes that happened in my life. The experience of quarantine and not knowing anything about this virus capped off a fitting end to my middle school experience. It then played a major role into the roller coaster High School experience I had.

Torn UCL

On March 23, 2023, I pitched in a game and felt a little pop in my elbow. That pop ended up being a torn UCL, and I did not play in a baseball game fully healthy for almost one year. I like to call it a blessing in disguise because the time off from playing allowed me to get an internship, help my high school coach at the field during the summer, and focus on getting my arm better for my senior year. That summer, I gained over 160 hours of hands-on experience in the sports broadcasting field with the Durham Bulls, got over 100 hours of community service, and the physical therapy helped me have the best pitching season of my life during my senior year. All that work led me to get into HPU and pitch to a 1.80 earned run average with a 2-0 win/loss record as a senior.

High School for me was anything but normal. I didn't get the feeling of being a Freshman until my Sophomore year because I was online the whole time as a Freshman. When I was back in school, I had to wear a mask, which it would later become optional to wear a mask inside buildings. I didn't really get my first normal year of high school until my junior year, where I would have an injury that changed my life forever.

Moving into college is my first time living away from home. I had to make new friends, get involved, and make sure that I was having fun. I found a way to get involved through Club Baseball which has brought me some of my best friends and is a huge part of my college experience. With being a student athlete, it comes with a ton of time management skills. I think about my day as a 9-5 job (which I give big props to my mom for) where I would work on school from in that time so I have time for my friends and doing fun things in the evenings and on the weekends. I appreciate my parents for preparing me to live on my own through the skills that they taught me in the first 18 years of my life.
