When most teens would go out to have fun, Loni's idea of fun was to go to the library! She is a kind heartedperson, never into being mean as she seems to love and respect everyone. Loni lights up when it comes to discussing science, learning about science, and especially teaching about science. 

On our team, Loni is my go-to when it comes to figuring out how to teach anything science related. Her knowledge is vast and has an unbelievably creative mind when it comes to different hands-on approaches to teaching students.  She is the first to offer to swap classes and come in and teach my class.

When it comes to learning about science, Loni is naturally inquisitive and learns like a true scientist would. It starts with her asking a question then it moves to her learning about it through different types of hands-on experiences. Each time learning something different and formulating a new question.

Lastly, when it comes to teaching kids about science the only phrase to describe her is rock star! That is what she is, plain and simple. Her classes are always down exploring the creek that runs behind our school, learning how to rebuild seized engines, and even tapping maple trees in our school's courtyard.

Loni's love for science is only matched by her love for teaching kids. She is a special kind of teacher that brightens people's days, makes kids want to do work and learn that don't normally have the motivation or desire to, and is one of the most genuine people out there. In my 19 years in education, I haven't come across many educators that do what Loni does or bring what Loni brings to education!

She's my go-to person for discussions of all things scientific, and she's always blowing my mind with her esoteric knowledge of science, including gene editing, space facts, and insect trivia. Her content knowledge runs deep and is driven by genuine passion.

She's also the most creative teacher I know. Every time I stop by her classroom, her students are actively engaged. She does this through so many methods including flexible groupings, inquiry, jigsawing content, hands-on learning, direct instruction. She has a knack for picking the right instructional technique for a particular lesson. 

Her ability to work with her hands is astonishing. She is masterful at sewing, painting, dyeing, scrap-booking, construction work, and too many other skills to mention. When we threw a co-worker a baby shower, Loni built a gorgeous book shelf for her. When we formed a softball team, Loni designed and silk-screened t-shirts. Loni's students repeatedly benefit from this knowledge as she guides them through hands-on projects.  

What this adds up to is that Loni is a master science teacher and any school would be lucky to have her.
