In 5-8 sentences (your choice of how long, try to stay under 10 and over 3 sentences), use a surrealist element to write about an influential person in your life.
Channel Patti’s love for Rimbaud!
Try to push past admiring your parents or a sibling. Use an artist of any medium who means something to you.

Lil Darkie is an artist that I have great respect for. His lyrics encompass an astounding number of issues around the world, ranging from historical ones, to international geopolitics and domestic strife. These lyrics are usually paired with a fantastic beat from one of his producers (& occasionally even himself), made in styles ranging from traditional hip-hop, rock, metal, lo-fi, & even jazz, with some others going further beyond those categories. He does not take himself "seriously" like other rappers might, has not forgotten his roots (both the quite impoverished ones he has in the US and in India), and is an extraordinarily humble person for the fame he has received up until this point, from the way he performs in front of crowds (like literally sitting with them as he sings and raps) to the way he generally lives his life.

My best friend hates ugliness. She points out the ugly in what she feels like, with little remorse. Her tough thoughts are what makes her beautiful. Ironically, she does not wear makeup, diet, buy necessarily nice clothes or ever try to impress. In school she just doodles, or sleeps, then she studies at home. She doesn't fight her narcolepsy, but draws her dreams. Her art amazes me. She draws people she will never be.

Cold, to let you, control the thoughts in my head. Two sugar cubes in my ice cup. Melting into an ice tiger. Cause girls like ice are just so different. We all make mistakes but this one is beautiful. As memories are created, we form. I make my last call and wait.

NAV

The self proclaimed “first brown boy to get it poppin,” NAV has been one of my favorite artists for a while. I am not a fan of lyrical music, and prefer songs that just honestly sound good to me and that is something NAV provides. Regardless of how many people say his music is trash, I find it to be very enjoyable. Not only does he rap in his songs, but more often than not he produces his own beats too, and they always take you to another world. Furthermore, outside of music, in a country where it is a stereotype for brown people to become doctors or engineers, NAV being in the rap game is a breath of fresh air. He gives inspiration to many brown people in the world that you don’t have to be what your parents try to force upon you.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

A martial artist I respect because of his strong, but flexible mindset. A humble but confident attitude stands tall in the face of adversity. Only his father can best him, but teach him a new lesson every time. Someone who learns from their mistakes, and their numerous successes. Someone who has the strength to walk alone, under the eyes of the many that criticize him. Someone who doesn’t try to blend in, with great technique and strength, but strength of the mind.
