By Douglas Adams
Brochure by Torin Chacko
Rating 10/5

The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is about a man named Arthur Dent who lived on Earth up until it was demolished by Vogons to clear the way for a subspace transport. He hitchhiked on the Vogon ship with his friend from Betlebrox ,Ford, before Earth was destroyed leaving him the last earthling. They are thrown into the vass vacuum of space and picked up by the president of the universe, an ex-hippie, who is trying to find a computer that can answer the ultimate question, "What is the meaning of life." They track down the computer Deep Thought with the help of Marvin, a robot with only one personality, Depression. In order to find out what happens next you'll have to read the book. My favorite part of this book is when Arthur figures out that mice created earth and they need his brain to recreate it because his brain has the last remaining memories of Earth. He soon faints when he thinks of Mcdonalds being recreated by his brain.

Anyone who likes Humor and interesting ideas, will likely like this book. This book has humor that seems to never end. I gave this book a 200%or 10/5 because it went above and beyond in making me wonder what happens next. This book is so bizarre you would have to look ahead to predict the ending and the answer to the big question, The meaning of life. For the answer stick your finger into the sky.

By Linda Sue Park
Brochure by Tara O'Brien
Rating 5/5

A long walk to water is about a boy named Salva and a girl named Nya that grow up in different times but are linked somehow. Salva is Sudanese Lost Boy who's villedge gets attacked in the cival war in South Sudan and he gets separated from his family, who he may never see again. He has to walk for years in hope of finding his Family. He and fellow lost kids walk for mounths in search on hospitality, and many loved ones pass.
Nya is an 11 year old girl who walks eight hours a day to get water for her family. She walks there twice a day so her mom, dad, and sister can have water. Throughout the story she gets a well built near her home and doesn't have to walk as far for water anymore, and encounters someone.

My favorite scene is when Nya is able to meet the person who ran building the well, she is very happy. The person tells her his story how he got here in his life, his struggles too. Now she doesn't have to walk far for dirty water. I thought this book was a great book, it was based on a true story that describes him walking through 3 or more different countries, getting very far. I like how the author told everything in great detail. This book is non fiction, .

By: J. K. Rowling
Padlet By: (Put your name here - this is a sample entry)
Rating: 5/5

Harry Potter is an underprivileged boy with a strange past. He lives with his neglectful and downright rude aunt, uncle, and cousin. They seem to be some of the worst muggles (non-magical people) in the world. When he receives a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry inviting him to be one of their students, he is thrown into a devious plot involving the most evil person in the world. Along the way, he makes life-long friends, experiences some of the happiest moments of his journey at Hogwarts, and finds more about his past than he ever could have imagined.

My favorite scene was when Hagrid turned Dudley into a pig, but only a tail sprouted because Dudley acted and looked rather like a pig beforehand. I thought this book was engrossing and interesting. I liked that the plot had an adventurous feel and that it falls under the genre of fantasy. It is also a mystery and fiction book. There was character development and it was easy to become attached to the characters. I liked the way the author described the setting. The words Rowling uses throughout the book and the feelings she expresses give the story an aged, almost wise ambiance. When I was rating this story, I found nothing wrong with all aspects of it, so I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, mystery, and/or fictional stories.

By: R.J. Palacio
4/5 Rating
Book report by: Kris Hernandez

The book has a main character named August, he is average boy, except for one thing August was born with a deformed face that make things hard. August has been home schooled all his life but he will soon start school at a public school that has real kids in it! August has a school tour before he actually starts. There are supposed nice kids that are giving the tour one of the boys is nice to him and becomes August friend, on the other hand there is the other boy who is really giving poor August a hard time. August finished the tour and keeps quiet about the rotten boy that picks on him. Once August starts school no one wants to be his friend due to his deformed face, but one person sees him from the inside not out a girl named Summer! She became friends with August. Halloween rolls around and August wears his Halloween costume that covers his face. Once August gets to school for a change a boy gave him a high five but his joy soon ended because his supposed friend Jack Will was making fun of him August runs away and later forgives Jack Will. The mean boy Jillian gets suspended for bullying and August gets an award for being the best he can be!
My favorite scene of the book is when August gets a high five from a boy. I like this scene because how happy August felt for once he felt normal! I like the book but I think it was personally a long book to read you will definitely need to read every day to finish this book. The plot of the story is really unique. The main character named August is a really good kid I almost felt like he was a real person! That was an awesome feeling. One thing that is bad about the book is how long it is I think they could have cut out a lot of things but overall it’s a good book.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjVg9H-_5PfAhWJjFQKHdetAWgQjRx6BAgBEAU&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWonder-R-J-Palacio%2Fdp%2F0375869026&psig=AOvVaw2tUk9j7GtlsGX94Ottu7Oc&ust=1544487916127956

The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl

Book by Stacy McAnulty
Padlet by Ty Galasinski
rating 5/5

The miscalculations of lightning girl is the exciting tale of twelve-year-old Lucy Callahan. Lucy was born like any other child, but one day when she was playing catch she was struck by lightning. Lucy is rushed to the hospital by her Nana, because she is an orphan. At the hospital the doctors see that the lightning injures the right half of her brain sending her left lobe into overdrive. This lightning strike also made her a math genius, the doctors called her condition, acquired savant syndrome. For those who don't know savants are super smart people who normally lack social skills or have some disability like OCD or being blind. Lucy goes on from that day forward homeschooled by her Nana, when she is just twelve-years-old she is ready for college but her grandma wants to put her through one last test, Middle School! Throughout the story Lucy tries to fit in to her new school and hide her gift along the way.

My favorite part of the story is how she is volunteering at an animal shelter for a school project, and she meets a dog named Cutie Pi, like the number. Lucy does not normally like animals because they are dirty and germy, but Cutie Pi is different. I like this part of the story because it reminds me of real life and how people actually act around someone or something they love.

In my opinion this book is an interesting book for those who like Realistic Sci-fi. It is such a great story because each of the characters seems so real, each character has flaws like any other human and each character has talents different from one another. I also like this book because of its concept. I think it is super interesting to see a genius and how they act in middle school, I also think that it is funny that she is smart enough to be in college but worried about going to middle school. In conclusion, this realistic Science fiction book is great for anyone who likes a thrilling adventure and a super genius.

By: Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler)
Padlet by Sonia McKenzie
Rating: 5/5

Violet, Sunny, and Claus Baudelaire led lives filled with misfortune and despair. From the beginning of the novel, they were informed that their parents had died in a fire. That same fire had also burned all their posessions. The Baudelaire's were shocked. They could not believe this had happened to them. The Baudelaires were incredibly rich, so Violet, Claus, and Sunny were also troubled with an enormous fortune, which could only be accesed when Violet became of age. The Baudelaires were sent to live with their third cousin four times removed, Count Olaf. The minute Violet, Claus, and Sunny were sent to live with him, they knew something was off. Count Olaf's house was a mess, and he made them share a room with a single bed. Their suspicion was deemed correct when Count Olaf said he would do anything to get the Baudelaire fortune, even if that ment killing someone. Count Olaf schemed up a devious plan to gain acess of the fortune. He would put on a play called The Marvolous Marriage in which he would "marry" Violet. Little did the Baudelaire's know that he would lawfully marry Violet and gain control of the fortune. The Baudelaires sucessfully stopped the nefarious plan due to the face Violet signed fthe marriage form with her left hand. However, the Baudelaire children did not realize this was only a morsel of the terrible events that were soon to happen to them.

My favorite scene is when the Baudelaire children figured out Count Olaf's plan. It was interesting to see them piece all clues together, and find out what he was trying to do.

In my opinion, this book is an excellent novel for those who like mystery and suspense. From beginning to end, it was interesting to read. You never knew what what happen next. I recommend this book to those who love adventure, and sitting on the edge of their seat.

Author Rodman Filbrick
By Michael Katsouras
Rating: 4.5/5

Homer (14) and Harold (17) live on their uncle's farm at the time the civil war is starting. Their uncle is a very mean person and feeds the pigs more food than he feeds Homer and Harold. To survive, Homer and Harold eat out of the pig troughs. One day, their uncle finds Homer eating the pig's food and is about to give him lashings, when Harold comes to his brother's rescue and beats his uncle up. A few days later, a man from the recruiter team for the army in the north, comes to the farm and asks about Harold joining. Harold's uncle lies and says he's 25, so Harold is recruited into the army. Homer gets very mad, but his uncle who's much stronger, throws Homer into the cellar. That night, Homer sneaks out, steals a horse and runs away, but he's captured by bandits who say the'll let him go if he goes to a rich man's house and finds his slave hiding spot for the underground rail way. That night, Homer goes to the rich man's house. The rich man discovers Homer's plan and forces Homer to explain what's going on. Homer says that he needs to find the slaves hiding area so Homer can be free. The rich man says that Homer can tell the bandits where the slaves are hiding and Homer will always be welcomed in his household. Homer lies to the bandits then gets them arrested by telling the police. The next day, the rich man gives Homer a guardian and a lot of money to find Homer's brother. Homer and the guardian go on a ferry to New York but the guardian gets separated from Homer. Homer somehow finds his way to a traveling elixir show and joins it. After a few weeks of traveling with the show, the group finds a guy in a balloon. They help him down, then help fix the balloon. The man in the balloon and the head of the elixir show chat until a few army members show up and arrest the head of the show for secretly giving away the positions of the north. The army decided to arrest all the people in the show but Homer climbs into the balloon and flies away. Homer doesn't realize, he's going into southern territory. He gets shot down and lands in a pond. Before he can get out, the south catches Homer and puts him in a barn/prison. When the guards step outside for a little fresh air, Homer sneaks onto a horse and rides all the way to the north. After that, Homer goes looking for Harold but it's getting dark out, so he stops at a northern base camp until dawn. After a while Homer finds Harold. Their reunion isn't very long because Harold has to go defend a crucial position in the hills. When the fighting begins, they have to hold off a lot of the southern army but the soldiers run out of ammunition so they charge at the south. More soldiers from the north get killed but Harold kills the captain of the south, so the southern army surrenders.
After the war is over, Homer and Harold live with the rich man and live a happy easy life.

My favorite part of the book is when Homer and Harold live in the rich man's house, because it seem much better than their life on the farm. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure and suspense.

By: Chris Colfer
Padlet By: P.K. Webster
Rating: 5/5

Alex and Conner Bailey are twins. Alex is a very bright and determined young woman. Conner likes to sleep... in class. He doesn't have that good of grades and his room is described as a cave with a half eaten grilled cheese sandwich resting in the middle of his floor in between patches of dirty clothes. Despite not exceeding in most academics Conner is exceptionally good at writing stories about he and his sister's adventures in The Land of Stories. He also has a knack for storytelling. They live an mostly ordinary life, or so they thought. Their mother works at the nearby children's hospital and works full hours to support their family since their father died in a car accident. Then one night on their twelfth birthday their grandmother gives them a storybook with all the tales of the princesses, queens, kings, and animals from the Brothers Grimm stories. Alex is reluctant to receive the gift from their grandmother, as it has been hers for a very long time and is extremely important to her. But she purposely gives it to them intending it to show them who she really is. Conner and Alex know when something is up with one another, 'twin-tuition' as Conner puts it. So when Alex seems put-off by something, Conner decides to investigate. He ends up finding Alex in the girls bathroom talking to a book. The Land of Stories book. The one their grandmother gives them. Alex is hysterical about what the book does. Conner doesn't believe her until he sees what it can do with his own eyes. Conner then seems content on destroying it, but Alex wants to discover what it can do. One day she accidently falls into the book, but miraculously doesn't find herself downstairs in her house's kitchen, like she previously thought if she fell it would just be a hole in the floor. Conner decides that she wouldn't survive without him and ditched detention to go into the book with her. They find themselves in a world of any child's imagination. Princes, princesses, knights, castles, and magical creatures as far as the eye can see. But they did not come at a pleasant time. The Evil Queen also referred to as Snow White's Evil Stepmother has "escaped" prison and is away in hiding. Alex and conner befriend a lovely, dapper frog who they call Froggy. He gives them a map of the land of stories and tells them a tale of a old spell called The Wishing Spell., then sends them on their way. Together they embark on a journey to discover who they and their family truly are.

My favorite part is when Alex, being a huge fairy tale fan, decides to climb all the way to the top of Rapunzel's tower. But when she reaches the top, she discovers that Conner is up there waiting for her. He informs her that when Rapunzel became queen she installed stairs so that she could visit as she pleased. And that she climbed all the way to the top of the tower, risking her life for hours for nothing. I like this part because it's funny that she climbed all that way for nothing, but you have to give anyone that does that credit even if they didn't have to.

All in all, this is a terrific book for anyone that likes fairy tales, magic, adventure, or fantasy. If you like it it is part of a six book series that they have at the Marin Public Libraries and in our own MCMS library. Chris Colfer also wrote a few other books that I personally haven't read, but you can look into if you look it up. Enjoy!

By: Gennifer Choldenko
Review by Andrew Gutierrez
Rating: 5/5

Matthew Flanagan, the son of a prison guard, felt like he was used to life on Alcatraz. That starts changing when he has to follow his side of a deal that he made with the most notorious gangster in the prison. Even though Matthew merely has to give out one rose, he has just one shot and must make sure he doesn't seem suspicious. The people there are also introduced to some newborns, the return of his sister, and a lack of trust between residents. No one recognizes what their actions will result in.

I enjoyed the parts when Natalie, Matthew's sister, proves that social disorders don't affect anyone's intelligence. I unfortunately can't give away any times this happened throughout the story without revealing the plot.

This story didn't receive an award, unlike the previous book, but that doesn't restrict it from having an intriguing story line and a ton of tension. Matthew's family could be kicked out of their homes, lose their friendships, and much more.

Book by Malala Yousafzai
Padley by Isabella Salvador
Rating: 5/5

On the date of October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was shot in her school bus, by a man from an Islamic terrorist group, the Taliban. She was a girl, a female, somebody not as respected or praised in her culture. Malala stood up for girls' education, which is something girls don't get as much as boys do in the country she lives in. She stood up to the Taliban. She believes in equality. That is why she was shot. The book is about her, and what happened in her life before and after October 9. She survived being shot, which was a miracle that needed to happen. (Karma is real.) This autobiography novel is about her journey of standing up for female education. She is the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize; at 17 years old.

My favorite part is when she describes how it was in the Hospital after she got shot. That part was really descriptive. (If I explain it, it will spoil the whole story and plot. Sorry!)

"I am Malala" is a moving and amazing story. I couldn't put it down. One of the reasons I rated it 5/5 is because of the way Malala tells it. It is never boring and really inspiring. On oprah.com, it read, "but this year the Nobel Peace Prize winner also happens to be an author, whose memoir every American woman should read". And you really should. It inspired me, and I think it just might inspire you...

Read more of the article: http://www.oprah.com/book/award-winning-books-i-am-malala#ixzz5cFqfKMwm

Book by Erin Entrada Kelly
Padlet by Isabella Salvador
Rating: 4/5

'The Land of Forgotten Girls' is a heartwarming book about sisterhood, imagination, and not giving up. 12 year old Sol and her little sister Ming, grew up in the Philippines with their sister, Amelia, their Mom, and their Dad, until the tsunami. Amelia and their Mom died, leaving the dad to take care of them. They move to Louisiana, with their evil stepmother, Vea. Vea is cruel and doesn't treat them well at all. Ming is protected by Sol, and Amelia's spirit shows up in the corner of the room sometimes to talk to Sol, and give her advice. Sol has a vast imagination; just like her mom. Her Mom told them stories about things, but they were almost never true. But isn't that imagination? Vea describes it as lies and fake stuff. Sol tells Ming all these stories, like how one day, they will be saved from Vea and that old, dirty apartment, and how they will go on many adventures. One of the stories she tells is about the 'land of forgotten girls'. They find help along the way from the most unexpected people, like a supposedly mean man who lives in a junkyard, a Chinese old lady who they thought was deaf and couldn't speak english, and a girl who was the complete opposite from. Sol's friendships, unexpected and expected, grows, and so does Ming's hope. If you read "The Land of Forgotten Girls", the thing that will grow in you is your heart. It will make you laugh, make you cry (at least it made me tear up), and make you mad at Vea.

My favorite part is when Mrs. Yeung takes care of Sol and Ming; right after they 'discover' the land of forgotten girls. Mrs. Yeung is one of my favorite characters, alongside "Casper", Ming, Sol, and Amelia.

I loved this book. The reason I rated it 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because it was a bit slow in the beginning, but it got so much better. It made me smile. It is an amazing book for people who like a good adventure or realistic fiction book. It is not in a series, but I wish it was! This bittersweet novel is so good (I can't say it enough!). Hope you read it!

Grace is sixteen and a single child adopted at birth. The night of her homecoming, while her ex-boyfriend is getting crowned king, she is giving birth to their daughter. After giving her own daughter up for adoption she asks her parents about her birth mother. She then discovers that she has two siblings. An older brother named Joaquin and a younger sister named Maya.
Maya is a fifteen year old and also adopted at birth and is the only brunette in a family of reds. She has a whiny younger sister, Lauren, and her parents are always fighting with each other. One night, her parents sat her down and they told her about her two biological siblings. Her parents gave Grace her email and Maya received a note from her.
Joaquin has been in foster care for seventeen years and is with a good family when he finds out that he has not one, but two biological sisters. His foster parents, Mark and Linda, want to adopt Joaquin , but the first time he was adopted it didn’t go so well. He was going to make sure Mark and Linda didn’t adopt him.

My favorite part of this book was when Grace tells Maya and Joaquin why she gave her daughter up. This really hit me because I’m adopted too and I understand why she wanted to do the best thing for her child.

I rated this five out of five because it really tackled topics like the worries that adopted kids can feel, teen pregnancy, and foster care. I think that people who like real realistic fiction from a point of view you may not think about often, will really enjoy this book.

By: James Patterson
Padlet By: Josh Malik
Rating: 4/5

This book began with a little boy that is physically disabled by the name of Jamie Grimm. He has a wheel chair and tells lots of funny jokes. He is a a kid who was trying to win The Planets Funniest Kid Comic Contest. He was competing with other kids that were really funny just like himself. My favorite scene in this book is oddly the first part of the book when he was very nervous and trying make funny jokes when he was in front of a very large audience. I thought this book was over all very funny in my opinion, but at the start was definitely one of the more funny parts of this book. Another interesting thing about this book is that Jamie is not held back by his disabilities. He pushes through them and can be the funniest he can. Most of the book takes place at school or his house. He likes to tell as many jokes as he. This book was very easy to read, I typically like to read books that are easy on my eyes and easy to understand. I read this book in fifth grade once, in sixth grade once, and once again in seventh grade. Their are also pictures which can help you remember if you lost track of reading your story which luckily did not happen. Over all this book was much enjoyed when I read it and I recommend it to people who like comedy books.
Thanks for reading...

Author of book: Chris Colfer

Summary by: Talia Brady

This is the third book in a series called the Land of Stories, where two kids Connor and Alex Bailey are able to travel in between the human world and a fairytale world.

One of the main characters, Connor Bailey, packs for a school trip to Germany. He finds out that stories written by the Brothers Grimm have recently been discovered. He uses his magic mirror that his grandmother, the fairy godmother, gave him to contact his sister, Alex, who is preparing for the Inaugural Ball, which will celebrate her joining the Fairy Council.

Alex tries to grant three wishes from random people every morning. Her magical unicorn can find people that need her help. She often makes mistakes, such as when she tried to fill a dry well so a town would not be thirsty but winds up flooding the town instead.

Conner’s stepfather takes him to the airport to meet his classmates and teacher. He does not like most of the girls going on the trip because they are mean to him, but he really likes a girl named Bree.

In Germany, Conner goes to a reading of the new stories by the Brothers Grimm. He is surprised when the first two stories are actually ones that he wrote the year before. Bree questions him because she also has read his stories, but Conner just says it’s a coincidence.

Alex goes to the Inaugural Ball. She is shocked to find out that during her training, she had been secretly tested to see if she had the qualities to soon be the next fairy godmother. The Fairy Godmother then informs everyone in the fairy Kingdom that Alex has passed her test.

The present Fairy Godmother is losing her power. Mother Goose contacts Connor and tells him everything. Since the fairy godmother’s magic dying off Connor goes on a hunt to see if the portal between the two worlds is starting to open up again. But he does not know that Bree, his crush, has been spying on him. She insists on coming to help him. Then the two of them realize the portal is open and they fall into the land of stories.

As Alex’s first act as Fairy Godmother, she makes the Happily Forever After Assembly, which allows the elves and trolls to have an equal voice with humans and fairies in the world of the Land of Stories.

I loved this book and give it a ten out of ten raiding. It was thrilling and some pretty crazy things happen. I very highly recommend this book.

By: S.E. Hinton
Padlet By: Liam Smith
Rating: 4.5/5

Rumble Fish is a story about 14 year old Russel(Rusty)-James, a smoking, drinking, and gang fighting adolescent. The story is narrated by Rusty five years after the events, and a few days after he had seen his best friend from his past. Rusty's story begins with "I was hanging out at Benny's playing pool, when I heard Biff Wilcox was looking to 🤬 (padlet is cancelling this word for some reason) out me." The reason for this is that Rusty had said something not too polite to Biff's girlfriend Anita In the story, Benny's was the hangout of all the junior high kids hanged out. The reader also gains the knowledge of the disappearance of the Motorcycle Boy. At Rusty's appearance and only then does he find out that he is fighting someone who has been "popping pills" which is something he does not like doing. When the fight begins Biff pulls out a knife and as no-one else has one, Rusty has to fight with just his fists and his wits. In this case Biff brought a knife to a fist fight. Rusty is able to get Biff to the ground though but as he's distracted by the Motorcycle Boy's return, Biff cuts him in which was supposed to "cut me open from throat to gut, but I had moved just in time." instead "I feel the knife slide down my spine." This didn't injure Rusty though, and not fatally at least. Russel also says "You can't feel a knife cut, at first." As Rusty heals, the rest of the story unfolds, the reasoning behind why Russel hadn't see his best friend in five years.

My favorite part of the story is a quick little joke that got my attention. ***SPOILERS***

It's in the part where he's getting expelled from school and is going to have to transfer to Cleveland. The councilor says "they are equipped to handle your kind in Cleveland." and Rusty responds with "Yeah? They got bars on the windows and bullet-proof vests?" I just thought this was a quick funny statement, the funniest statement in the book worth mentioning.

The book perfectly summarizes the trouble making adolescent. All in all the book is an amazing fictional narrative of the 14 year old Russel James.

Author: Dan Geimeinhart
By: Trevor Revai
Rating 5/5
This novel starts off by the main character (Mark) explaining that he had had enough with his cancer. He had been in and out of the hospital his entire life and decided to run away to Mt. Rainer. Along the way he runs into many problems. He is beat up, and all of his money is stolen. This leaves Mark with no option but to sneak on a bus. He is quickly kicked off and lies in the dirt to die. He wakes up a day later with a burning passion. He will do anything to reach the top of Mt. Rainer even if it means death. He then is inspired to reach the top with his loyal dog Beau. My favorite scene was when he met a little girl, who he thought was kind of annoying until he realized she is lonely and has no one to talk to. It was kind of sad to see two people so alone but really brought out their emotions. I enjoyed this book because it was exciting to watch Mark take this journey. I also liked this book because it opened my eyes to people who are not as fortunate as me. I would reccommend this book to anyone who loves dogs, adventures, and an inspiring story.

The story has so much to offer and is still going on today. It's never boring, cats die, clans come back from the dead, and more. My favorite part in the first book is when Fireheart brings one of his bestfriends Ravenclaw to a barn so he wouldn’t be murdered. After the first book I was hooked and I kept reading 50+ books till there was no more books to read. I recommend this book to everyone and I hope you read it too.

By: Garrett Pardo
Rating: 4/5

One reason why Brett Farve is so popular is because he was from a small collage called Southern Mississippi. No one expected him to be such a great player. The start of this book starts of in 1993 in Brett Farves first season in the NFL. Brett plays for the Green bay packers in Wisconsin. This book goes threw the good and bad times over the years he plays football. When Brett was in collage he crashed his car and had bad injuries and when he go into the NFL he had bad problems with his pain. One season when Brett had just made it into the playoff's that made them the under dogs and game by game they made it into the super bowl against the New England Patriots. In that super Bowl they ended up winning that game 21 35. Farve goes on to win more super bowls and becomes one of the best quarter backs in NFL history.

My Favorite part in this book is when Brett wins the super bowl against the New England Patriots when they were not favorited to win. I recommend this book to anyone who likes sports, and also likes to read a true story about a man who was an under dog and tried as hard as he could and became an amazing player.

Cervantes
By: Owen Chowanec
Rating: 5/5

Zane Obispo is a boy with a short leg and he discovers that he has a prophecy to unleash and destroy the Mayan god of death, disaster, darkness, and destruction. How did this all start you might ask? Well, Zane lives outside a volcano in New Mexico which he discovers is A-puch"s(god of death, disaster, darkness, and destruction) prison. Our story begins when it is the first day of school(him being home schooled his whole life because of bullies bullying him because of his leg)and his cane(that turns out to be magical) when this mysterious girl shows up to his house. He soon finds out that this girl is a nawal(shapeshifter to a specific animal) and is on a mission to help Zane. Rosie is his beloved three legged dog who dies and he wants to bring her back to life. A-puch being the god of death he makes himself his soldier. Even though he kills A-puch he stills go's to the underworld and becomes his soldier of death.

I loved this book because just like all of Rick Riordan's other book's it was based off of mythology. I don't know why, but I find it really fascinating all of these interesting gods and legends. I give this book a 5/5 and highly recommend this book to Percy Jackson lovers and people who like mythology.

Author: Kelly Barnhill
By: Gian Adan
Rating: 5/5

Enchanting it may be, magic can be harmful and be as dangerous as the tip of a blade. There were two twin brothers, Ned and Tame who looked as alike as if you saw your own reflection. No one could tell the two boys apart, they had the same voice, same eyes, same personality. But many still thought that one was cleverer, slightly quicker, or had a better personality than the other. They couldn't distinguish the difference between them, the boys didn't let anyone get the chance to study them more. They would not be still, nor would they stop pulling schemes with the same, wicked grin on their face. One day, they felt it was a good time to build a raft, they built it with scraps, using lumber, sticks and things like broken pieces of furniture. They finished it off with a bit of rope. The boys were careful not to expose their project to their mother. Once they felt that it was right to set sail, they set it down in the Great River and hopped on. Ned and Tam hoped it would be sturdy enough to make it into sea. They were wrong, quickly enough broke into pieces, the current pulling the raft apart. And the boys were thrown into the water. Their father, who was very gallant, dove into the water, struggling and pushing through the current in order to save his children. A crowd gathered around the river, the people to scared to help him. They yelled comments at him, like "And if you can only save one, make sure you save the right one." The current separated the two boys and the father fought bravely against the river. He went for the closer boy and the other one got swept down the river, out of sight. The other twin got saved, whilst he washed ashore, swollen and dead. The villagers said that the wrong boy was saved while shaking their heads. Although the fathers efforts to saving the "wrong boy," he was barely alive. He was shivering filled with pain, coughing out heaps of water. The boy's mom was waiting patiently, she was known as Sister Witch. Everyone listened to her and was the owner of "a small store of magic." People went over to the deceased boy's body, carried him, while muttering things about "Sister Witch." About how, even with all the magic she has, she couldn't save her own child. She heard, but did not reply. The living one was carried to her and, with a bit of magic, resurrected him by bind Tam's soul to his. "Magic is dangerous, it has consequences." Ned did not speak, he was slow, shy, awkward. "The wrong boy," or the boy with no words. Aine is strong, resilient, resourceful girl. She learned many things like sailing and fishing with her parents. Very suddenly, Aine's mother dies, and her father takes her to the dark forest. Her father is the Bandit King and just now continues to go down this path once again. A kingdom is divided by the dark forest, and a villian plans to overthrow the queen of one side of the kingdom, who is wise and a good ruler. While Aine's father plans to do the same with the other side, the king who is cruel and spoiled. Nine stones are in the dark forest, waiting for Ned, the "wrong boy." Should I have added that the boy and girl meet? A wolf companion? Or a bone chilling battle?

My favorite part of the book is when Ned starts speaking and acting bravely. It was almost like he was the same person before Tam died. It's just very heart warming that he is more experienced than ever, and found himself a new companion.

The reason I rated this book a 5/5 because of the nail biting experience it gives you. The enchanting story line drags you in to the point of no return. It's fascinating descriptions makes it as though the book is talking to you. The dialogue is fantastic, it pulls you in to a different world, it's as if you are there. That is why I recommend this book to all who likes fantasies and adventure books.

It is about a girl who grows up in Cuba and it basically explains her daily life, and her religion and where she grows up! This book is filled with family love and traditions, secrets and deep friendships, and a gorgeous, moving picture of the island of Cuba, where Alma Flor grew up. Told through the eyes of a child, a whole world comes to life in these pages: the blind great-grandmother who never went to school but whose wisdom and generosity went to those around her; the hired hand Samoné, whose love for music overcame all difficulties; the beloved dance teacher who helped sustain young Alma Flor through a miserable year in school; her dear and daring Uncle Medardo, who bravely flew airplanes; and more.

My favorite part of this book was when she describes all the street vendors and how they sell their food in the streets. How she waits for their calls every day and all the special things like fruits and plants and people she grew up with. She goes into such detail and you can't stop turning pages.

Book By Rick Riordan
Padlet By Charlotte Papes
I give this book a 5/5 rating.
This book is about a boy named Percy Jackson, who is twelve years old. He has been kicked out of every school he has attended since middle school, and lives with his mother, Sally Jackson, and his stepfather, Gabe Ugliano, but Percy calls him Smelly Gabe behind his back. The first chapter, ‘I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher’, starts with Percy on the bus to a field trip with his Latin teacher, Mr. Brunner, and his Pre-Algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, who hates him, but loves his and his best friend’s bully, Nancy Bobofit. When the group is eating lunch, Mrs. Dodds sees Nancy fall into the fountain, and blames it on Percy. She then leads him into an empty room and proceeds to turn into a monster. Percy defeats her, hence the name, ‘I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher’, with a three foot long bronze sword that appeared in the place of a pen Mr. Brunner had given him before he went into the building with Mrs. Dodds. This is an amazing story about greek mythology, and it has amazing character development.
My favorite scene would have to be when Percy meets Annabeth for the first time, and he expects her to say something like, ‘Wow, you defeated a monster, that’s awesome’, but instead, she says, “You drool in your sleep.”

By: J. K. Rowling
Padlet by Finn. S
5/5
This book is the third book in the Harry Potter series. The reviews for the other two are in this Padlet. You should find and read these so this Padlet is better understood. At the start of this book, Harry Potter gets a letter while he is home for the summer, telling him that if he needs a parent signature to go to a wizard village called Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is a special village that third years can go to and visit cool magical shops. When Harry asks the Dursleys to sign it, they are rude and they say no. Harry Potter is upset and then blackmails them that if they don't give him permission he will tell their aunt who is visiting that he is a wizard. The Dursleys hate magic so they say yes to hold up the bargain. Then the aunt starts smack talking Harry Potter's parent so Harry accidentally hexes her and turns her into a balloon. The Dursleys get so mad at him so Harry runs away. He takes the Night Bus to Diagon Alley where he meets up with his friends, Ron and Hermione, to go back to Hogwarts for the school year. Back at Hogwarts Ron's twin brothers gives Harry the Marauders Map which shows locations of every student/teacher and all spells that can be used to get out of the castle. Harry uses this map and his invisibility cloak to visit Hogsmeade. While there he eavesdrops and learns something important to his backstory. The conversation he hears encourages him to find out more about his past and the relationships of the people who created the Marauder's Map.

SPOILER ALERT

My favorite part of this book is when Harry and Hermione use a time turner that Professor McGonagall gave to Hermione. They use it to save Sirius Black. I also like how if you inference you can learn that Moony is Lupin, Wormtail is Peter Pettigrew, Padfoot is Sirius Black, and Prongs is James Potter.

By: Tui T. Sutherland
Padlet By: Theo Madrid
5/5
The Wings of Fire is enticing book series with The Brightest as one of their most enchanting. It is the fifth book and it explains the backstory of the series secondary character, Sunny. Sunny had escaped the Nightwings, a type of dragon and ended up in a place called the Scorpions Den , a criminally controlled territory of the desert. Although the Sandwing empire has claimed this oasis it is controlled by a group of Criminals called the Outclaws. Sunny had been searching for her parents as she thought they abandoned her, but then she really learns that her old guardian Dune stole her because of the quote un-quote prophecy which she learned before-hand was fake. She learned this news when she met her mother or the leader of the Outclaws. Sunny has many questions about what happened to her father and why her mother hated Dune and Morrowseer, the dragon who created the prophecy. That was when she learned about her being her mother and Dune stealing her egg. Dune had once been Sunny's mother's friend until he stole her egg thinking it to be an egg of the prophecy. This book is a fantasy book based in a land inhabited by dragons from many different races depending on their main terrain they are born in. I fully recommend this book and series because it combines fantasy and real history into an amazing series. This book has really explained the history of the Sandwing's and what they have plans for.

My favorite part of this book was when Sunny snatched a special item called the Obsidian Mirror that shows what a person is doing for the cost of a bit of your soul. When she stole the mirror, the Nightwing she stole it from was completely asleep. He didn't even wake up when Sunny accidentally smacked his tail. The Obliviousness described by the author gave me the dose of humor I need from a book. I really rate this book a solid 5/5 for the realistic history and adventure.

All their lives are average until one day a student named Dwight Tharp shows up to school with an Origami Yoda puppet on his finger. The Origami Yoda starts solving lots of problems for the students and lots of their lives get a lot better. At the same time, people are wondering if Origami Yoda really is using the Force, or if it is just Dwight saying all these things. Also the principal doesn't approve of the Origami and Dwight gets in a lot of trouble.

I gave this book a 4/5 because it is very fun and interesting but it is not one that makes you have to read on. You could take a break from reading it and not wonder what will happen next.

My favorite part is when they are at the school dance. One boy is dared to dance with the girl he likes. Her story begins in Garden Heights. She doesn’t go to a school of her own race she goes to a “white school” as she likes to call it. One night her bestfriend Kenya invited her to a party. She decided to go and at that party she’s meet her long last friend Kahil. A few minutes after, they heard gun shots and Kahil took Starr to his car and drove away. When they were in the car they heard a song that said “thug life “ which means The Hate U Give Little Infants F***s Everybody. After them was a cop and Starr got scared. Her daddy showed her what to do when that would happen. Later, Kahil was told to wait outside of the car and stay there but Kahil moved into the car to grab a hairbrush and gets shot. He dies. Starr was there crying and became the witness. She was asked many questions but they were not questions of what happened in the moment. Many weeks later she decides to protest and do what is right. Her story is long but I would recommend this book to people who love realistic fiction. This book has many cuss words but overall it’s a great book.

For the answer stick your finger into the sky.
favorite
3
Your avatar
1
Your avatar

Add comment
The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl

Anonymous
4d
The Miscalculations of Lightning Girl .
favorite
2
Your avatar

Add comment

By Jeff Kinney
Padlet by Philip Llora
5/5

This book is about a kid in middle school named Greg Heffley and he goes through a lot of troubles with his family and at school. This is the thirteenth story in the series and it's called Diary of a wimpy Kid: The Meltdown. My favorite scene in this story is when it was night and the upper Surrey street kids built a huge castle type thing out of snow and ice. Surrey is the name of the street and it's a hill. There are two groups the upper Surrey street kids, and the lower Surrey street kids. They were rivals so they obviously didn't like each other. My favorite scene of the book is when the upper kids which included Greg and his best friend Rowley were in the fort thing, they asked a kid to get some water and snacks to bring to the fort from his house. So they had to get the kid to his house without the lower kids seeing him. Eventually he did get to his house but even though he promised he would come back with food and water, they could see him laying in his bed eating with a warm blanket on him while they were all out in the cold. I recommend this book to people who like drama, comedy, and a little bit of action. I also rate this a 10/10 because of the good story and the illustration.

By: Chris Rylander
Padlet by: Jameson Zamlich
Rating: 4.5/5

This is a mystery/humor book. The main part of this story is there is a 6th grade detective who was an office in the fourth stall of the bathroom with no toilet. The reason it has no toilet is a really long story and he doesn't explain it much. People come to Mac for advice or help. He hasn't had many really bad cases for things people needed from him, until fred walked in. He was really in a pickle. If you want to read this book i'm not going to spoil it for you. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes to laugh (a lot) or likes to be on the edge of their seat. This book is also extremely suspenseful. For example, through the whole book they keep talking about a man named staples, but you don't find out what he looks like til the end of the story when they capture him. I hope you guys read this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
