Today I started reading “Fan girl” by Rainbow Rowell. When I was trying to pick a book yesterday, I was wavering between “The girl” by Emma Cline and “Fangirl” by Rainbow Rowell.
It was a tough decision. But, I ultimately decided to choose this book because it’s about love story and I love romance and I couldn’t find “the girl”. I don’t regret my choice because I love the story. Sometimes, it’s hard to understand but I feel like I’m living the story with the characters.
More about the book I chose:
1. What GENRE is it? Realistic fiction/romance.
2. What is ANOTHER book the author has written. Eleanor and Park.
3. It is considered a classic? Or a more modern read? For me, it’s considered as a modern read.
4. Has it been made into a movie? No but there is a copy in Spanish.
So far, I like it!. Here is a quick summary of what I have read so far. There is this girl Cath, she just moved in at her college’s campus. She is like a nerd, she avoids contact with people, she prefers staying in her room and writing her fan fiction on her laptop. Her fan fiction is very famous. She meets her a new roommate but at first, they don’t really talk. She meets her roommate’s friend. And after a month of living there, they start a friendship.

In the show, people got compliments and felt better about themselves, they understood that they deserve to be seen as they are. In my book, the girl didn’t have self-esteem for herself but she met this guy and he liked her, he proved her how great is she even if she’s a nerd. Nobody cares about that because she is more than just a nerd. 
2: My second connection is with my trip, the fact that I live here, in the United States without my family. Im the show, the man wanted people smiling because it’s beautiful and you can enjoy your life better. Being here alone was very hard but I smiled every day because nothing is more beautiful than smiling and it helps to stay positive. Today I went to this fun museum and saw a ton of cool pieces. My favorite would have to be “Vancouver kissing couple” by Richard Lam. Here’s a picture of it!
This photograph shows a couple kissing surrounded by cops everywhere.
It really stood out to me because it can show that love is stronger than anything.
I also like that the photographer focused on the idea of even if there is a “war” or something like that, if we love, we can be stronger. Overall, I really liked all the pieces! In It ends with us a young adult romance book by Colleen Hoover, the main character is a 23 years old woman named Lily Bloom. Lily grew up in a home where her dad was abusive to her mom. She loved her dad but she also hated him. After college, she moved into Boston. After 3 years fighting cancer, her dad died. She had to say 5 good things about her dad for homage but she didn’t say a word. After this chaos, she met a random guy on a rooftop, Ryle. They started to get to know each other via “naked truths” about themselves. He was a neurosurgeon and he had to leave for work. With letting her know that he wanted to have a one night stand with her. He didn’t want serious relationships because of his career. But she didn’t see him again after that night. After 6 months,she decided to open her flower shop, and she met a random girl, Alyssa. She became her first employee and her first best friend in Boston. But ironically, this girl was the random guy from the rooftop’s sister, she was Ryle’s sister. Gradually, Lily and Ryle became very close and they started a cute relationship. The first tragic event happened. They were having fun but Ryle burnt his hand, as a surgeon it could be a disaster. Lily, still in a happy mood, laughed. But Ryle hit her under this anger’s effect. She was scared but she forgave him, she said “the next time this happens, I’m leaving you”. When she was younger, Lily helped a homeless teenager, Atlas, and she fell in love with him. After a few months, he left for Boston to be a marines. She saw him at this new restaurant in Boston. He saw her. But he saw her with some injuries with Ryle, also with some injuries to his hand. Lily while going into the restrooms talked to Atlas and he was mad because he thought Ryle hit her. It was true but she denied it. Ryle saw them and started being mad, both of them started fighting. After this day, Atlas came to Lily’s store and gave her his number, in case she needed it. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, Ryle found it, called the number and knew it was his number. He got mad and left the apartment but she followed him but again, under the anger’s effect, he pushed her violently and she fell down the stairs. When she woke up, it started lying to her but she remembered and asked him to leave. Alyssa knew about what her brother did and begged to tell her something. He told her the reason why he can’t control his anger. She forgave him again and she started feeling like her mom, who always forgave her husband for hitting her. But she was convinced that Ryle is not her father. But One night after a discussion with Alyssa about marriage, they decided to go to Vegas to get married. But the Fairy tale came to an end. After a few weeks as husband and wife, Ryle found out that Lily kept all of her souvenirs from Atlas and she got a tattoo in connection with Atlas. He was drunk and angry. He hit her, tried to rape her and he bit her on her collarbone where is her little tattoo. She tried to calm him and she stayed until he fell asleep. Then, she called Atlas to help her. They went to the ER and she found out that she is pregnant with Ryle’s baby. She never really forgave him. But she allowed her to take his role as a father. When their baby, Emerson, was born, she decided to get a divorce to preserve her daughter’s relationship with her dad. Followed by a second book about Lily’s relationship with Atlas. 
The big conflict in Lily’s life is her abusive relationship. This event made her question herself about her identity. Is she like her mom? Is she gonna let him hit her? Is it safe for her daughter to live in an abusive home? She realized that she has to be stronger than her mom. Emerson, her little girl, has the choice to love her father and have a good relationship with him. She will never see him hit her mom because she preserved their relationship by getting a divorce. Even if she loved him, sometimes love is not enough. After the last time she let him hit her, she repeated a few times to herself “I hate myself because…”, she realized what she did to herself. Each time she said to herself, “he is not like my dad, next time I’ll leave him, etcc…”. She wasn’t really sure who she was and what she deserved. As we know she has a daughter. This little girl gave her the strength to finally understand what she deserves. And she doesn’t wanna live like her mom, suffering by her husband. That’s the only event that makes her question about her identity.
I can relate to her by my own experience. No one ever hit me but I was abused mentally by my ex boyfriend. He was my first love, I was so afraid to lose him that I didn’t realize how he treated me. But I was also scared of him, especially when he was mad and when he screamed. When he left me, I felt free and even if I still have some deep wound because of him, I changed and now I'm a new woman who knows what is best for her and who knows what she deserves. Reading this book, I realized that a lot of women are living the same thing as Lily or me. They’re scared to leave because they could kill them, they're scared to leave because they would have nowhere to go. Or other reasons why they’re not leaving their partner. Also, I realized that we always judge the woman, “why isn’t she leaving him?” or other judgments sometimes even worse. We never judged the guy, “why does he do that?”, “he needs to stop”, etc… In my opinion, this book could help a lot of women to finally run away from their abusive partner.
