They came to the U.S.A because in Teocuitatlan de Corona there was no jobs. So they couldn't provide food for their kids and in 1976 they immigrated to the U.S, but without papers. So many Americans joined the protest against the ongoing war in Vietnam. Later on in 1972 after so much campaigning from feminists  the congress has finally approved the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Luckily it did not affect my Grandparents because during those times they were living in Encinitas and all they worried about was their kids and their jobs. Another thing is that as they were living in Encinitas they were never involved with the congress. Also they were getting paid, so they were able to provide shelter, food, and a new life for their kids. Another thing is that they immigrated here by going through the mountains and the deserts.
