- When the tape is applied correctly, it achieves the last of these effects by lifting the skin to create a small space between the muscle and dermis layers.
- That space takes the pressure off swelling or injured muscles, allows smooth muscle movement and makes space for drainage and blood flow.

- Identify the injured finger
- Decide which fingers to tape together, for example, If your third finger (ring finger) is injured, you have the option of buddy taping it to the second or fourth finger. Choose the finger most equal in length, but for the most stability, the ring finger should be buddy-taped to the middle finger.
- Prepare the fingers for taping by using an alcohol wipe.
- When taping you need to use the widest tape possible, but do not tape over the knuckles.
- Place one piece of tape between the first and second joints and another between the second and third
