Methods Used:

Email - I only use this whenever I need to email my professors in school. I don’t use it on a daily basis. (Low Frequency)

Instant Messaging through messenger, instagram, telegram, viber, etc. - I use these social media platforms from time to time since I have conversations with my friends and colleagues in listed mediums. (High Frequency)

Video Conference through zoom and google meet - I wasn’t able to use these platforms that much since it's our face-to-face week but I did use it for some group meetings. (Medium Frequency)

Analyze:

I prefer instant messaging using different social media platforms over the others because it is readily available on my phone which allows for quick updates and access. It’s very convenient since it has messaging, video calls, and content sharing all in one place. Also, unlike phone calls where you need immediate availability, social media allows me to send messages and respond at my own pace. I think my preference can affect my interaction with others through increasing connections since social media allows me to stay in touch with a wider network of people, including friends, family, and acquaintances. It also provides different platforms where I can share my thoughts, experiences, and interests with others.

Reflection:

As I reflect on my personal communication inventory for digital communication, I realize that being able to juggle multiple platforms like Instagram for social connections and Telegram/Viber for specific groups, shows my ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences and situations. I think this is a valuable skill in the future since it's essential to be knowledgeable about the communication platform that everyone uses today. My current reliance on the mix of instant messaging and email reflects a future where I’ll most likely prioritize efficiency. Platforms like email are perfect for sending structured information, while instant messaging allows for quick updates and informal exchanges which I'll likely carry this preference for the right tool for the job in my future career. Lastly, being comfortable with these various tools indicates a future where technology plays a significant role in my communication. This means that I’ll likely be comfortable adopting new platforms and learning new communication technologies as they emerge in my professional field.

Methods Used:

Verbal Communication - I use this all the time since it’s pretty obvious that we need to talk or be verbal with the words that we want to say, especially if we want to share ideas, thoughts, and information in a clear and direct way. (High Frequency)

Nonverbal Communication - This is where I use facial expressions and body language to reveal emotions that might not be explicitly stated in words. I usually do this when I’m in class where I can’t talk but I want to convey a message to my friend who’s sitting far away from me. (Medium Frequency)

Active Listening - This is applicable whenever I listen to someone talking, in order to understand their message and avoid misunderstandings. (High Frequency)

Analyze:

I prefer instant verbal communication over other methods of communication because it allows us to effectively express ourselves. We can use specific words to describe things exactly as we perceive them, whereas nonverbal cues can sometimes be open to interpretation. Most importantly, spoken communication allows for immediate feedback. We can hear how someone reacts to our words and adjust our message accordingly. This is trickier with nonverbal cues, which can be more subtle and require more conscious effort to interpret, especially if the one you’re trying to rely on the message is slow to understand things. Verbal communication affects my interactions with others through instantly gaining connection or learning how to socialize with other people. Clear and friendly talking builds trust and understanding. Our words have the power to build bridges or walls in relationships.

Reflection:

As I reflect on my personal communication inventory for face-to-face communication, I realize that our choice of words shapes how our message is received. Being clear, concise, and tailoring the language that we use to our audience will ensure that our message is understood. Verbal communication is essential for me since a lot of people perceive me as having a “resting bitch face” that’s why they don’t approach or talk to me. That is one of the reasons why I learned to enhance my communication skills so that I don’t get misunderstood. On the good side, I was able to overcome this which is important, especially if I start working in the future, and it’s bad if I get misinterpreted because of the way I look. By consciously choosing the right words that will fit my audience, projecting confidence through body language, and truly paying attention to both the verbal and nonverbal messages of others, I can develop a communication style that fosters trust, understanding, and successful outcomes. This journey of improvement can be enhanced by practices like random conversations, observing effective communicators, and seeking honest feedback. This will allow me to continuously refine my skills and build stronger relationships in the future.
