         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although this piece doesn't seem to have any intertextual references it does hold great meaning. This painting could show the&nbsp;generality of prostitution in the Victorian society at the time, as it can be seen; the woman sits in what can be assumed to be her lovers lap. Indisposed, and without a wedding ring, the audience can assume that what is happening in this painting isn't "Ladylike" for this time period. This piece could also be seen and interpreted as a seemingly act of 'Sexual deviance'.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I can only assume that not many were too about this piece, some could think that it shows acts of 'impurity'. I could see many people of this time (1853) seeing this painting and deeming it as inappropriate.</div>]]></description>
