IPOH, PERAK! (Prose Non-fiction - Travel Writing)

Mark Twain once said that "Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do rather than by the ones that you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." It hits me hard, so I took my decision to spend four days of my life to visit a city that I have never been to, which is Ipoh, Perak, along with my three other course-mates. Stayed at Falim Homestay, it costs us for only RM60/pax for the period of time. It was super clean, convenient, comfortable and perfect. Five stars!

DAY 1 in Ipoh, Perak: Kek Look Tong Cave Temple! We visited Kek Look Tong Cave Temple, which is a worship place for Buddha people and a tourist attraction spot located at a huge cave in the limestone outcrops behind Gunung Rapat, which is about 5km south of Ipoh City. The cave temple was 12-acre site in size and was used as early as 1960 as a place of worship and a part of an iron mining site. We were amazed by the natural scene. The thing that I found most unique about the cave is there are another great garden view once you get inside of it. Like the lyrics in one of the Aladdin movie songs, "a whole new world, a new fantastic point of view". That was what I felt as I first entered the cave. The limestone hill is made up of light grey to white crystalline Kinta limestone interbedded material bands. It was riveting, I mean, for the whole place. The stone shapes, the monkeys, the birds, the turtles, the fishes, the lake, the trees, the cave, the statues, the award winning landscape garden, the jogging paths, GOD! That was a natural beauty!

DAY 2 in Ipoh: Gunung Lang Recreational Park! Despite of the light rain, we still survived and enjoyed the visit! Opening everyday on certain time for each days, the park was a truly a natural gem of Ipoh! To get to the park, you first needs to buy the return boat ticket for RM3 per person at the main entrance. Then get on the boat, people! Enjoy the five minutes of boat riding while being surrounded by the beautiful lake. At the park, there are many more hidden treasures! Mini zoo, lookout towers, Japanese garden, murals, Malay heritage house and etc! If you are planning to come here, do not forget to get ready with your smartphone, cameras, tripod and powerbank because it is an absolute Instagram-worthy spot. I GUARANTEED!

DAY 3 in Ipoh, Perak: Kledang Saiong Forest Eco Park! Opens everyday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., this forest eco park located withing Kledang Saiong Permanent Forest Reserves requires RM2 as the entrance fee. Spending almost half a day there, we enjoyed ourselves dipping in the stream of cold fresh water. Oh, you can also do activities such as BBQ, picnic, jungle trekking and get involve in various activities similar to the other eco parks. It is the nearest eco park from the city of Ipoh, allowing you to go close to the nature without enduring a long drive. A great body refreshment!

DAY 4 in Ipoh, Perak: MAPS (Movie Animation Park Studio)! It was a very bright and happy place to pay a visit with family and friends. With zero entrance fee, you can walk in to the animation theme park. The highlights of MAPS are The Smurfs land, Mr Peabody & Sherman Time Adventure ride, Casper's Birthday Blast ride, Megamind Megadrop, Asteroid Attack, Hyperspin and Space X-Plorers. But the question is... do you dare? 😏 Oh yes! It is a very marvellous and colourful spot for taking pictures! So again, do not forget to bring along your smartphone, camera, tripod and powerbank. (And get ready with your different style of posing!)

Hence, there you go! Four interesting and recommended places to visit when you are here in Ipoh, Perak. I never reget being there, so I wish you would too. Enjoy your time as much as we do. Live it up, and colour your life with the different colours of exploration! 💕

SELFIES OR FLOWERS? (Prose Fiction - Vignette)

When he opened the door, he always brought me flowers. Marigolds, orchids, roses, lilies, you know the rest. I picked up a Polaroid of us doing a selfie near the rose bushes. I smiled a little before throwing it into the fireplace as I watched it crumbled into ashes. A symbol of our love right now. It was once strong and burning, yet now it is nothing more than the Polaroids, ashes and dust. A tear slid down my cheek. He was no longer there to wipe it away. He was with someone else. Someone he thought could give him more love than I ever could. Maybe I never deserved him. I would never know if I deserved better or worse. I lay on my bed and stroked a petal that fell from a withering rose on my bedside. Did he give me flowers because he knew our love would never lasts? That our love was like those flowers? They will first bloom so beautifully filled with life. Then later, it would wither and die. The petals. The petals was like showing me that we are getting more and more torn away from the base of romance. Next time, when I find someone else, I would ask him, "selfies or flowers?"
