         <description><![CDATA[<div>We are a large primary school and one of the problems that my students have is about the overcrowding of the play areas.&nbsp; Our students have already addressed this as being a safety issue and that it inhibits their ability to play effectively.&nbsp; Another could be about parking before and after school as this is a major issue in our school.&nbsp; Students could also explore how to make a collaborative classroom environment effective for a class with a student with ASD - This is relevant to my current class. &nbsp; I have posed this to my students and some of the ideas were amazing and clever.&nbsp; They went beyond behaviour modification and came up with ideas such as other forms of communication (use of iPad) and an app for the student to let us know how he is feeling.&nbsp; I strongly believe that students next to explore problems that are relevant to their context.&nbsp; They can still be big problems but they offer an authenticity. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Our students worked in groups to grow pulses in the science competition.&amp;nbsp; It didn&#39;t work out to plan with lots of difficulties along the way.&amp;nbsp; Students learnt through the process by problem solving as the different issues arose.&amp;nbsp; For example, we had inadvertently created a mosquito trap with our pot plant so we changed it.&amp;nbsp; The ibises were feasting on the seedlings so we discussed possible solutions.&amp;nbsp; </title>

Students of these classes have to create a product that they believe will a) solve a problem and b) is marketable.  After a series of lessons encouraging students to consider what they enjoy doing and what problems could be encountered along with research tasks based on futurist ideas, they are able to branch out and start designing.  We are encouraging failure and persistence, market research and moonshot thinking throughout.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Changing the Playground</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Our Year 3 task was to understand and create a persuasive text based on arguing a point of view. The Year 3 students considered the fact that all other year levels at the school had great 'built' playground areas while they had nothing, as an ethical issue and decided to write persuasively to the Principal and P&amp;C to ask that this anomaly be addressed. Groups brainstormed:<br>- what they wanted an aspirational Yr 3 / 4 playground to look like and contain.&nbsp;<br>- arguments for a persuasive letter to be written to school authorities.<br>After the introduction had been written at a whole class level, groups were given aspects to develop the body of the letter and to write the conclusion.<br>The whole was put together as a class letter and each student signed it before the letter was copied and sent to the Principal and P &amp; C.<br>The outcome was that the Yr 3 / 4 students got a new playground of which they are very proud.</div>]]></description>
