Programs at our college are very reluctant to add 12 additional hours on to what they are requiring of students. For example, we had a nice IET in which our faculty co-taught basic math as part of the summer safety course for the Residential Construction program began. But with the ABE hours having to be reported separately, the Construction program basically said thanks but no thanks. The integrated model worked great--we got great outcomes, the students were prepared for the math they would do in the field. Anecdotally, the students have noticeably worse math skills when working in the field now.
