Course description:  This two-semester course explores the manner in which American literature developed through the ages and is both a product of and representation of the values, events, and reactions between different literary and historic American time periods.

·        Notebook or designated part of notebook for English only

*Every student starts class with an A+, but what you do with that A+ is up to you.

*Respect your other classmates by listening with an open mind.

*Be an active listener and clear communicator.

*Work hard, don’t hardly work.

*Be on time and prepared for class every day.

*Don’t use pockets as folders.  Get a folder for English work only.

*Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

*School dress code applies in my classroom.

*Please feel free to make appointments with me before or after school.

*No food or drink in class unless you have enough for the whole class.

This work will be judged on the quality and quantity of work done.  Homework is worth a large portion of your grade, so I strongly encourage you to do each assignment.  Late assignments will be accepted if they are not used in class the following day and with point penalty.  Students have one day to make up

homework for each day absent.  Homework assigned before absence will be due upon the day of return.

 

Tardies:  Because I start class as soon as the bell rings, it is crucial to the class and myself that everyone is on time.

1st tardy: excused

2nd tardy: conference with student

 

Every project and paper will be assigned with an explanation sheet and a rubric.  The due dates will be clearly defined.  Projects and papers are due on their assigned dates.  Projects and papers will be accepted one day late for an automatic grade lower.  After one day, no projects or papers will be accepted.  If circumstances arise where the student is unable to be present on the day a paper or project is due, arrangements must be made beforehand with me.  No computer problems will be accepted as excuses for late papers.  Plan ahead.

 

Test dates will be clearly defined.  If a student is absent on the day of a test, the student must make it up the day upon return.  Quizzes will be announced most of the time.  The same absence policy applies for quizzes.
