A few people who believed that slavery was wrong were William Lloyd Garrison, who was the publisher of the newspaper, Liberator. In 1833 he formed the American Anti-Slavery Society. A man named Frederick Douglass was a publisher for an antislavery newspaper called North Star. Sojourner Truth was inspired by Douglass's work, so she decided to speak out about how bad slavery was. Harriet Tubman, the conductor of the Underground Railroad, which was a secret network of abolitionists that secretly helped runaway slaves to reach freedom in the U.S and Canada. All of these powerful people have many things in common but the biggest thing is that they were all slaves once.
