If you were to go on a trip to Mexico to witness el Día de los Muertos first hand...(a) When would you have to go? (b) What would you see (decorations, traditions, foods, symbols, colors, etc)? (c) What would you say to somebody that asks you about the traditions that you use to honor the deceased in your own culture? Be as descriptive and specific as possible.

We cremate bodies as it is a religious aspect of our culture, and offer the ashes to a river. This is not something we celebrate, but we mourn because it is a sad event. Instead of it being colorful, we wear all white to show our sadness. We also hang a garland around a portrait to show they died.

a) I would have to go to visit Mexico from October 31st to November 2nd to most likely a cemetery to experience some of the traditions of the area.
b) I would see decorations like marigolds, candles, skulls, bright colors. I would see foods like pan de muerto or sugar skulls. I could see Ofrendas, dancing, and music as well. These are all celebratory traditions of Dia De Los Muertos.
c) I would say that we have somewhat similar traditions in the United States however they still are very different. For instance we have traditional cemetery services where we bring candles and pictures to come honor their prayers. Our traditions are not as celebratory, standard Italian traditions are rather dreary as we do not celebrate death. Although it is seen as time to come together and honor the person and their life.
