Katniss Everdeen emobidies self-reliance the most to me. Katniss is "relieved and gay" following her success in the hunger games. After putting her "heart into her work" she is able to protect and provide for her family. While her family needs her, she has gained no help from them. Katniss is an extremely hard worker, very independent and will not open up to anyone who has not gained her trust. She is tough, brave and a role model to all.

Martin Luther King Jr has contributed so much to today's society, however, when he was alive and speaking, people misunderstood his tactics. people believed he was not aggressive enough, however, we can see today what effects spring from violent retaliation. The wise actions taken on by Martin Luther shall be mirrored by society and we should move back to being passive and less violent in our arguments and ideas. This is the best solution to get the greatest effect will the minimum consequences.

They say to own up to who you are as a person and speak your mind. Don't base your thinking off somebody else. Stand alone and be heard. Both the essay an the song remind people that their individual voice matters.

Pathos- Emerson uses pathos by describing the difficulty of standing alone and having your voice heard. however, he describes the importance of being self reliant.

Ethos- He uses ethos when he relates to historical figures such as
Jesus. He says that it is normal to be misunderstood because everyone who has left a legacy was once misunderstood.

Logos- Emerson use of logos describes how it isn't possible for everyone to think the same as you. it is okay to stand alone in your position and you should not be talked into a new way of thinking.
