A motif evident in Beneath Clouds is violence, this is shown when Vaughn and his mates lash out and violently confront the police.
when Vaughn confronts the farmer, it shows how the indigenous people feel like they still haven't received recognition as the first Australians.
The intended message of Beneath Clouds is to acknowledge the violent past of non-indigenous take over of indigenous land and is still evident in today's society.
Ivan Sen's intended effect on the audience is to shine a light on an issue that is constantly hidden away in darkness and brings them to reflect on the violent past of the country and to show that it wasnt a peaceful 'settlement' but a violent invasion.

The motif is the repetition which is like the voices of the aboriginal people (e.g. "We are the past, the hunts and the laughing games, the wandering camp fires."). It demonstrates that since those conflicting times, Australia hasn't been willing to understand "the old ways". Due to the split of the indigenous Australians, they feel like "'We are as strangers here now, but the white tribe are the strangers. ". It is shocking and bitter to accept that kind of past in Australian history. But it is now time to create a new chapter in history which should be titled "We are coming back"
