Despite this, I believe that Alina will master her powers because of Bagrha.

it was pretty bad at the beginning and end. During the middle of the book it wasn't that bad (I liked genya) but other than that it was pretty weird and the ending has so much build up just for Alina to use the power of friendship to save her and mal from the darkling which really sucks in my opinion.

Then her and mal sailed off to another country to escape somehow, which was pretty random. it was better before mal got captured and him and Alina were running in the forest away from the darkling, and they got caught. Then after that, it sucked again.

The book felt very bland. I really felt that the book could have a stronger ending because the ending was just really lacking and felt empty. I feel like the ending would be better if Mal actually died and Alina became independent, it would make the ending feel a lot better than the actually ending. Plus, the beginning was just so boring. I know it's world building, but it was just so long and took like 10 chapters to build the world. The middle of the book was ok, it was probably the only decent part of the book. I typically like fantasy, but this was just so bland and missing some things that would make the book so much better.
