Drew meets someone at a party and they really like them. They ask for Drew's number, and they give it to them. Several days later, Drew starts receiving explicit sexual messages from them. Drew texts them back and asks them to stop. They pass Drew's number on to their mate, and they start harassing them too.

The long-term implications would be that the harasser would believe it is ok for them to continue, and their harassment will become worse, perhaps even moving into physical bullying if Drew does not do anything. Drew may need therapy or may get trauma from this experience, and would probably avoid giving new people their number.

To fix this problem, Drew would need to report this to the police and block the numbers that keep harassing them.

What is the impact of fixed/strict ideas about masculinity on:

Fixed and Strict ideas may impact society greatly, since most people still have an "old school" mindset and refuse to change their opinion. Though there are many campaigns to refuse our old ideas, there will still be a couple of people who do not agree.

This can impact individuals since most people worry about judgment when they do something, and these fixed ideas may impact what individuals do or feel or may impact their idea of masculinity. This may stop people from doing what they love, in fear for being "different".

What messages could young people receive from viewing pornography?

Young people may get the idea that whatever is shown in Porn is realistic. This is not true since Porn is part of the adult entertainement industry and people shown in it are actors who are simply told what to do for each scene. Young children who have not discussed the difference between porn and reality may have a distorted idea of what is done and what is normal. This is why it is important that children get talked to and are aware of what's real and what's fake.

What are some of the potential legal, social and/or personal impacts of viewing pornography?

Pornography may have many impacts on the people viewing it. People viewing it may have trouble later forming relationships, dealing with stereotypes (FINISH LATER)

The community might become more harmonious with others.

How can challenging discrimination and transphobia benefit everyone in society?

Challenging discrimination would benefit everyone since it would help others in society afraid of judgment feel safer. The challenge of norms would help people understand it is okay to feel different and that there are others to support them.

Ways People Differ

Difference is treated at school not as well as it should be treated, with most people experiencing bullying because society requires everyone to fit specific requirements to be "popular" or not bullied.

I consider myself a very "different" person, not only through my ethnicity, but through my clothes, my humour, my culture, and my personality. I have struggled to approach it with confidence, as social media has become a very prominent factor in people's lives, with comparisons everywhere. But I believe differences are what make people unique and should be accepted by society.

I have many different friends. Some who seem way more mature than me, some who excel at everything they do and others who fail almost every class. A wide variety of home situations, and overall, a diverse range of people. I try to approach differences with an open mind, and generally like how, when there is no judgment between people, you can be as open as you want. I always make sure my friends feel like they can talk to me about anything and can be themselves.

How could things be better at school with regard to differences?

I believe that school would be way better if everyone could openly express themselves, or get help with situations they need guidance in. I believe that students or children dont naturally bully, so perhaps showing and teaching them that bullying or harrassment is not ok would help others as well.

I can change how I help others. If a person who perhaps is different to others, whether in a situation or something else, I would try help them and support as best I can.

SCENARIO: A young woman whose family is poor and whose father is known as the town drunk.

How do you differ from the person in your scenario?

I differ from the person in the scenario because I do not have the same problems or situation as the young woman. We differ in the situations, and these situations may shape our worldview differently.

What have you learnt from participating in the activity?

That though people have different situations, the different forms of help and different services available to people in every situation would ultimately benefit society as a whole. These services that were later introduced in the activity showed that though everyone was extremely different and had their own problems, the help they would all receive would even out the advantages.

You are at a party having a great time, when your older brother arrives to drive you home. You are annoyed because he has come an hour earlier than you had arranged. You want to stay at the party for a little longer.

What are some aggressive, passive, and assertive ways of responding to the scenario?

There are several ways to respond to this scenario, such as agressively (perhaps shout at him or rudely tell him that he was too early), passively (just go along with him and not say anything) or assertively (patiently and calmly explain to him that you were hoping to stay for a little longer, and perhaps call your parents for confirmation whether or not you can stay longer).

How do body language and tone of voice affect this?

If a person is agressively talking to another, the other person may feel that they too may need to be aggressive as well, and this is how situations escalate. On the other hand, if a person is too passive then the other person may take advantage of that and assert the conversation, perhaps forcing you to do something. But when assertive, you are both nice and respectful but will not let the other person be aggressive with you.
