In Athens they had a council of 500. The council of 500 met every day. The council ran the daily busiuness of government and suggested new laws.   
Sparta: Had an Oligarchy. Sparta had a Council of Elders. The Council of Elders was a group of 2 kings and 28 men, all the age of 60 or older. Athens was near the sea and was easily able to trade with other city-states/foreign lands. In Athens they used coins. Coins were made out of gold, silver, and bronze. One side of the coin had a picture of Athena and on the other side a picture of Athena's sacred bird, the owl. In Athens they also had an Agora. An Agora was like a Greek farmers market.   
Sparta: In Sparta economy depended on farming and conquering their neighbors. In Sparta the farming was so good because of their soil. They had Helots who farmed the land. Helots were the people that Sparta conquered and made them their slaves. In Sparta they used iron bars instead of coins. Boys went to school and learned, but girls stayed home and learned how to clean and do house work. 
Sparta: In Sparta boys were taken off to military school at the age of 7. At military school they were trained for war/battle. Very few women had jobs. Slaves also taught boys until they were old enough to go to school.
Sparta: In Sparta women lived plain simple lives. They could speak freely to their husband's friends, they could own land, and marry again of their husband was away for too long.
