Question: 1. What lines from the reading resonated most with you? Why? 2. How did annotating help you notice things that you may have not noticed if you didn't annotate?

" It swung its head from side to side and then gave out a low moan and turned and lurched away and loped soundlessly into the dark."

This resonated with me because when I first read it I didn't understand it at all. Then I took a second and thought about the deeper meaning and realized he could have been talking about society and how we turn a blind eye to everything until we are left in the dark alone, trying to find a way out.

"He pushed the cart and both he and the boy carried knapsacks. In the knapsacks were essential things. In case they had to abandon the cart and make a run for it". This (T-W) connection really stuck out to me because it hurt me to read, in this book a father is doing everything to provide for his child just like many other homeless families across the globe. It's terrible to know there are people out here struggling, not in the same circumstances as this man of course, and it feels as though there's not a lot I can do so when I read the quote, it just put a lot into perspective for me. I now see the danger that this man was currently in and it made me realize that these things don't just happen in fiction books. If I didn't have to annotate and make these connections I wouldn't have even thought to put those ideas together but comparing what I know in the real world to what I'm reading helps me better understand what I'm reading and how I can make it more clear to me if I ever get confused, it's much easier to compare it to a real world circumstance.

"Everything paling away

into the murk. The soft ash blowing in loose swirls over the blacktop. He studied what he could see.

The segments of road down there among the dead trees." this quote resonated with me because it does great job of painting a picture in my head along with a few other quotes from the story. It also reminds me of a book I read when I was 6th grade but I cant quite put my finger on its name.

1. Any Imagery/personification including light or water resonated with me the most. At points in the story the author writes that light is dancing and water is singing. these examples alone help paint a beautiful picture even though the world in the story ha been ravaged and disfigured. This could show that even in pure entropy, beauty can still be found.
2. The Annotations helped me dig deeper into the story and look for the deeper meaning of the choices the author made when writing the story.

1. The line that resonated the most with me was "It swung its head from side to side and then gave out a low moan and turned and lurched away and and loped soundlessly into the dark." This shows how the beast could've easily killed them, but it didn't. This also applies to the father and his son. Many things could have killed the father and his child, but they are still alive, so it was meant to be.
2. Annotating helped me notice many of the literary devices such as personification in the story. Also, many of the lines in the story have second meanings, and it it interesting to see how the author can write one sentence, but it can mean 2 different things.
