         <description><![CDATA[<div>While substantial progress has been made in expanding access to safe drinking water and sanitation, there are billions of people (mainly in rural areas) who still lack these basic services.&nbsp;<br><br>Worldwide, one in three people do not have access to safe drinking water, two in five people do not have a basic facility for washing their hands with soap and water.&nbsp;<br><br>The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the vital importance of sanitation, hygiene and adequate access to clean water to prevent and contain disease.&nbsp; According to the World Health Organization, hand washing is one of the most effective actions that can be taken to reduce the spread of pathogens and prevent infections, including the COVID-19 virus.&nbsp;<br><br>Still, there are billions of people who lack access to safe water and sanitation, and funds are insufficient.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>3 out of 10 people lack access to safe drinking water services and 6 out of 10 lack access to safely managed sanitation facilities.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li>At least 892 million people continue the unhealthy practice of open defecation.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li>Women and girls are responsible for collecting water in 80% of homes without access to running water.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li>Between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of the world's population using an improved source of drinking water increased from 76% to 90%.</li></ul><div><br></div><ul><li>Water scarcity affects more than 40% of the world's population and this percentage is expected to increase.
