Strengths
Adoption studies establish a genetic link in depression showing how growing in a different environment can still lead to developing depression.

Limitations
Environmental factors can still have had an impact in child developing depression. Children not always enjoy their experience in foster care, and moreover are prone to bullying once in school, which could have impacted them later in life.
