Another example could be the use of chlorine. On one hand chlorine is a useful chemical used in many industrial processes and on the other hand it can be used a chemical weaponry. Both of these examples can be used for civilian means and military means. At this point, there would have been no other atom bombs on the planet and had no more been created, there is a possibility that a hydrogen bomb would have never been created and nuclear weapons may not have been a "regular" weapon in today's world. If the pursuit stopped after Nagasaki, a similar outcome could be possible where nations agree that this technology is not worth pursuing because of the devastating effects. The scientists reactions demonstrate that they never wanted the atom bomb to be used so early or even used at all. Their intent was well in trying to protect their nation from an evil regime but when the bomb had been used, their intent had been thrown out of the window. Yes the bombs lead to a faster end in the war with Japan, but the bombs were never intended to be used by the creators.
