that is surely a good question... there's really a lot to say!
I want to be a nurse because I love the contact with patients and the idea of taking care of someone. what makes me happy and proud is that someone enters into hospital and with your care and your love, they will feel better and recover in most of the times very soon. Honestly, I don't remember the very first moment when I decided to become a nurse, it all went with the flow :).
when I was a child, I went to the hospital several times due to respiratory problems; even as a child I was always impressed by the relationship between nurse and patient because it's kind, caring and nurses are more in contact with patient than doctors, so they can build a different relation. I suppose that being a nurse isn't always an easy job, most of the times this can be challenging, difficult and daunting, but I still believe that this the best job for me! 👩🏼‍⚕️💉🩹💊

I've choose the article "general anaesthetic" in Nursing book, page 95. this shows, briefly and with simple words, how is composed general anesthetics and what this can do on a human body.
this type of anaesthetic is composed by three main parts: a drug that helps the patient falling asleep, a drug that paralyses the muscles and, finally, a painkiller.

the first drug of general anesthetics, that is the one for falling asleep, works in a short time, usually in ten seconds or less, where the patient falls asleep. from that point the patient is monitored with an EEG that records brain waves. the second drug paralyzes all the muscles, so the patient can't move or react to stimuli. the third component of general anaesthetics is a painkiller. the most used painkiller in the operating room is morphine but there are so many others... under the effect of these medicines the patient can't feel the pain caused by surgery.

when a patient is asleep and drugged, is always controlled by a doctor that is specialized on anaesthesia : the anaesthesist. his task is to control everything: vital signs, cardiac activity, haemoglobin and carbon dioxide in the blood, also temperature to prevent hypothermia. his main task is to prevent anything that can which can lead to the awakening of the patient when isn't the right time, for example during the surgery.

despite the effects of drugs, patient's brain is still working, so the patient can listen what's happening and what the surgery staff is saying, but brain doesn't control muscles, that are paralyzed, so body can't answers.

I've chosen this article because I'm very interested about what happens in the operating theatre and general anaesthetics is something that fascinates me a lot!

what makes a good nurse? what skills are needed?

definitely being a nurse isn't very easy, it requires some specific skills.
the main ability, in my opinion is patience 🙏🏻; isn't always easy to deal and communicate with patients and their relatives, so patience can help a lot. another skill that is very important is the ability of dealing the emergencies⚠️, because not always there is a calm situation for dealing with patients. also learn to understand and communicate with medical language🗣, this can help to work with other specialists of the hospital, also can reduce assistance times and avoid misunderstandings. We should not forget, however, listening👂🏼 for the patient and love for caring🤱🏼. <3

that is absolutely my favorite tv show about medical and clinical field. Grey's Anatomy is a medical drama based on the life of Meredith Grey and her lover, Derek Sheperd (😍). it is all based in Seattle Grace Hospital.
the episode that I decided to summarize is the first of 9th season.

It all begins after a plane crash where were involved some of the main characters, and this event changes the lives of the survived ones. Meredith Gray is now a general surgery specialist who teaches interns, Mark Sloan has not recovered from the accident and survives thanks to machines, but later he will die. Dr. Sheperd seems to be fine, and his hand, involved in the plane accident, seems to be fine too, so he decides to operate on a patient’s spine with Dr Torres. During the episode there are many flashbacks about the life of Dr. Sloan before the plane crash, and all the memories with his friends and colleagues.

The best thing that happened in this episode is a is a phrase that said Derek Sheperd that impressed me a lot and made me think:

"it's a beautiful day to save lives"

he said this before the spinal surgery, and he will say this another time, on the day of his death :(. I don't know why he said that, I suppose because this was his first operation after the accident that affected his hand, and it’s as if these words gave him confidence.

these made me think because this is really what we do everyday: SAVE LIVES.
for me it's a beautiful reminder, even when we have a bad day and times aren't always good, it's always a beautiful day to save lives. 💕

what type of structure do you imagine working in? how do you imagine your career?

I imagine working in a surgery room. For now, I've seen O.R. only when I accompany the children to operate, then I return to the department. However, after the three years of nursing school I want to do two years of specialization to become a Surgery Nurse and work in the operating theatre. I imagine my career doing the things I like to do, preparing the operating room, the material for the surgery and the patient. In my future life I imagine so much things apart from the hospital life, just as like having a family, having kids and be satisfied by my life. I know that my dreams about my future life are quite challenging, but I'm doing my best to realize them all. 💖

I've always had good relationships with my clinical tutors, fortunately 😍
but, one that I remember with lots of love, is my clinical tutor of my surgery room internship. I remember that in that period I felt very clumsy doing nursing things, because our internship was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic, so I was in my second year, but I felt very insecure and I couldn't do anything in practical terms; I just remember once my tutor kinda "stopped" all the surgery so I could do one procedure that I was not able to do, so my clinical tutor understood the situation and she helped me going through all the practical things that a nurse has to do in the OR. I can only be incredibly grateful because it has "unlocked" me in a really hard period of my university life.❤️
obviously, nothing is easy, so I still have to learn a lot, but is only because of patient and kind tutors that I am building up my incredible future. ✨

okay, I think there are many sources to keep ourselves update about the Covid - 19 pandemic, but only some of them are reliable and we can consult them without "falling" into fake news.
first of all, the most important, is the site of World Health Organization (https://covid19.who.int/region/euro/country/gb), and here in this page is about Covid in the UK.
it is also important the site of UK Government (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/) such as US site as well (https://covid19.who.int/region/amro/country/us) these can help us keeping track of Covid pandemic in these countries.
then, I think is important also know some "rules" in order to deal properly with this virus, so, UK government has a web page where are the most important informations and guidelines about it (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-safely-with-respiratory-infections-including-covid-19).

I was thinking about it these days (and it was not made on purpose)😄. I was just wondering about "what if was I a tutor?" I guess I would absolutely love that! I would be a tutor that has a lot of patience and, I don't think a lot of questions from my students would let me be stressed, instead, that would let me express myself better! I would be using simple words so my students understand easily and quickly, and, of course, I would love the relationship between me, as a tutor, and my students! ❤️👩🏼‍⚕️
I think the best thing I can "teach" as a tutor, is that nothing is impossible, there are difficult, easy, good and bad days but situations, and we must learn to treat them and do everything to save a life.🩺
