Consider what a “landscape” is, does it have to be natural or can it be man-made?
Could something display the sense of a “landscape” without literally being one?
You must mix your own colors.
Using primary colors and black and white create all the other colors you need.

Sketch basic outlines on your canvas using pencils.
Start filling in your image with paint, remember you must create your own colors using primary colors.
Start off working background to foreground, then don’t be afraid to jump around to add in your details.

5. Change colors, simplify, exaggerate and rearrange your shapes

Mixing parts

What is a part? If you see the instructions: Use 3 parts of yellow paint to 1 part of red paint. Ratio is the number of parts to a mix. For example, the paint mix is 4 parts, with 3 parts yellow and 1 part red.

Use only two to three colors in a mixture

When working on a single paint mixture, try to stick to a maximum of three colors as much as possible, but don't worry that's not counting the whites of course. Mixing too many different colors together can result into a muddied, dull and lifeless hue. It is more advisable to use as fewer colors as you possibly can, especially when it comes to working with dark colors. And remember to gradually add in small amounts so you can easily control the levels of tint, shade or tone of your mixture.

Color wheel

Not only does the black and white affect the 'in & out' direction of the colors mixed, when another color on the color wheel is added the new color will swing either left or right on the wheel and take on an aspect of the new color, depending on how large of a part of the ratio it has.

Example: I add 3 parts white to my 1 part yellow. It is now 3 steps closer to the center. If I then add 1 part blue, it will swing to the green, maybe 2 steps closer to the center, since more white isn't added. If I continue to add more blue, not only will it swing closer to the blue, but the new color will move closer to the middle of this color wheel since the ratio of white does not change and becomes a smaller part of the ratio.

Materials to experiment with your Collage

Newspaper - underneath the paint - paint glaze over for visual interest
Construction paper - underneath the paint - drybrush over this with some wrinkling for great effects
Paper towel - underneath the paint for texture
Pastel - go on last as water would dissolve the pigment
Oil pastel - this would go on last, you cannot paint acrylics over oil.
Charcoal - You would also want to do this last so you don't loose the smudging or details
Sharpies - may bleed if painted over

Découpage - involves the arranging and pasting of colored paper cutouts, often by layering, to create an image. The image is then sealed with varnish.
Photomontage - created by cutting and gluing other photographs to create a new image is known as photomontage or compositing.
Assemblage - three-dimensional images are created by adding found objects to a flat surface, assemblage is a form of visual art related to collage.
