Claudio believes that Benedick is wrongfully accusing him because Claudio did not slander Hero but Don Pedro did instead, however because neither of them know that, they both believe each other are lying about Hero cheating, and they both think each other is the villain here and is lying; Benedick believes Claudio came up with the story that Hero was cheating, and Claudio thinks that Benedick is lying about Hero for Beatrice. Benedick tells Claudio he is a "villain" (Line 158) as well as "cow[ard]" (Line 161) for this, and Claudio does not understand why Benedick is saying this because he did not come up with the slander to Hero, but Benedick is convinced he did because of Beatrice.

As shown in this quotation, "In most profound earnest, and, I'll warrant/ you, for the love of Beatrice" (IIII, I, 207-208). Shakespeare uses blunt dialogue to show how Claudio and the Prince have realized that Benedick is serious. Benedick willingly decides to challenge his friends and choose love over friendship. His loyalty towards Beatrice shows how his character has developed to accept love.

When Benedick says "I will... humor" (V.i.197-198) he is intending that the others were joking with him and he was not being taken seriously. When the Prince says "Nay I said" you can tell that it is a repeating idea or a motif. Shakespeare did this to show that the prince was disagreeing heavily with what Benedick was saying earlier on the page. This conversation continues for three pages where Benedick wants to be taken seriously. This shows that Benedick just wants to be taken seriously and wants to fight Claudio for Beatrice.

Benedick is starting to act like himself again. this can be seen on page 195 on line 83 when Benedick says "They swore that you were almost sick for me." I think that it was also very hypocritical of him because if he was still with Hero he wouldn't be saying that so he just says it because he's unhappy.

The author uses symbolism here to show that Benedick is acting savagely, comparing him to a bull and that he is not his usual sensible self. He makes jokes at Benedick's expense in front of him joking around to Claudio as if he is not there.

After finding out Hero is innocent he begins to show signs of his old self by saying, "Your overkindness doth wring tears from me ... I do embrace your offer and dispose for henceforth of poor Claudio" (307-309). However, Claudio was still saddened since he obviously believes Hero is really dead.

This demonstrates how Benedick betrays his dear friend as an act of love toward Beatrice.
