How can we make an informed decision if we do not know how the upcoming Power school components will work? In all reality, if we do not wait, then the decision is made in favor of oncourse.

It seems there are many programs that are serving the same function. Blackboard, Onenote and now the Powerschool classroom. Should we streamline our effort and just use one of these? I feel that staff should all be using the same format to run their classrooms to make it easier for students to interact with the interface and so expectations can be aligned with these online platforms. Also then staff will not have to recreate their sites on all of these different platforms every other year.

I thought PowerSchool was cleaner and easier to work with. It looked like it would require little training. The Oncourse looked like more training would be required but without actually seeing the new PowerSchool components or being able to try them both out, it will be hard to make a decision.

Tough to compare apples to apples not knowing what the yet to be released Power School components will offer us. Power School could take any shortcomings of the OnCourse system into account and provide a product that would serve us better.

These were two different presentations. OnCourse focused on big data visualization and state reporting which is great for administration. They failed to even show the LMS component. Their digital learning strategy does not seem to meet our needs PowerSchool was much more focused on the teacher experience and showed how they can be a much more robust platform (integrates with various Office 365 products) as a one stop source for teaching and learning. OnCourse seems to be great for the visualization and reporting aspect but would not meet the needs of forming a digital learning strategy. Changing a SIS is a massive move and if it is done everyone (including parents)needs to see how it makes teaching and learning better.

I think it would be prudent to wait until spring when powerschool has all their pieces available to view. Then we could make an informed decision and avoid making an expensive mistake. Currently working with oncourse and powerschool is like night and day. Power school is easy to read, easy to navigate and intuitive. Oncourse is none of these. If the LMS piece is as difficult and cumbersome to use as the lesson plans the teachers will be unable to use it and If the parent piece of oncourse is as difficult to use as the teacher piece we will get a tremendous amount of push back from our parents who know and love powerschool.
