The original No Child Left Behind Act set the standard for unfair competition. Schools that were failing in their test scores were deprived of federal funding, which would be awarded to the schools that were performing well in their test scores. The No Child Left Behind Act should be changed into helping schools that are falling behind their test scores. Funding should not go to the well-to-do schools, it should be sent to the lower schools in hopes of changing their student's test scores. It should also look into firing teachers that are not actively teaching their students and expel students who refuse to cooperate with educational environment.

It was stated that the No Child Left Behind Act "needs to shift from applying sanctions for failing to raise test scores to holding states and localities accountable for making the systematic changes that improve student achievement." The NCLB can be improved when Congress funds an intensive development effort that enables federal, labs, centers, and universities in collaboration with states to develop high-quality performance assessments. Also, when Congress encourage improvements in state and local assessment practice. The federal government should move the National Assessment of Educational Progress toward a more performance- oriented assessment, with tasks that evaluate students' abilities to solve problems and support their ideas. Lastly, Congress must ensure more appropriate assessment for special education students and English Language Learners by creating more appropriate assessments in the content areas for these students. The NCLB should be improved because the law's design and implementation have narrowed the curriculum, caused schools to abandon some successful programs, and created incentives for keeping and pushing low-achievers out of schools.

According to K-45, The No Child Left Behind Act was created for the purpose of ensuring that all students receive the same level of education, meaning that the goal is for students who are doing poorly at certain schools will improve if measures are put into place. According to the reading, there are three things that can be done to improve NCLB. The first improvement that can be done is to fund places where test items are reviewed to see whether or not they are measuring what they are supposed to be measuring and these places will also ensure that the tests are up to standard. The next improvement is to adequately train the people who are scoring assessments. The validity of assessments is extremely important . The last improvement in the reading is developing different assessments for special needs students, which is something that is problematic today because there are many special needs students who have difficulty mastering the material that is on standardized testing.

I think that the most area that NCLB needs to be changed is the Adequate Yearly Progress indicators. Currently, "it requires schools to meet more than 30 separate testing targets annually" and "have labeled many successful and improving schools as failing, while preventing adequate attention to the truly failing schools that states should focus on". This ties into problems with testing special education students and ELLs. The law currently states they show a 100% achievement of these students, which is not feasible. The legislature should stagger achievement and spread it out along a timeline. Money should be appropriated to consolidating these tests and making them more effective. Funding new technology centers for schools will also be beneficial. Students will have a real exposure to technology. The states should be accountable for these improvements. NCLB sponsors should look to international schools for inspiration on how to fix these problems in the American school system.

The reason for the NCLB act being put in place was to ensure all students receive equal opportunities in a classroom. This law requires testing students, holding teachers and school accountable, and school improvements. One major thing I think should be changed is the testing of students. There is one standardized test that is given to all the students- I think this is problematic because students with special needs or even those below grade level comprehension suffer the most. The testing should change and tests should be modified to ensure the equal chance of all students receiving the highest possible score.
