Short Vowel
Every English word must have a vowel sound. Understanding and recognizing the vowel sounds help you with reading, spelling and vocabulary building. 

* Watch the video for a fun short vowel song.

* The first worksheet is a vowel color by number page is a fun way to review the short and long sounds. Each color is associated with a vowel sound. Once completed, it’s a colorful kitten ready to play!

*The second worksheet will review long and short sounds.

*The last activity will help you to read longer words that have short vowels in their closed syllables.  Read each word, then self check by clicking on the speaker.

This week we will review silent e. The silent e, or sneaky e, phonics rule  says that the e at the end of a word does not make a sound - it's silent. The silent e makes the first vowel in the word say its own name. Let's look at the consonant blend in the word "spring."  The letters "s", "p", and "r" are consonants, and they are directly next to each other at the beginning of the word. When you say the word "spring" , you can clearly hear the sounds of each of these letters, making it a consonant blend.
