I chose Mrs.Magic by Strawberry Man because of the lyrics talking about the mind and feelings. "Tell you what lurks deep inside,Deep Inside My Battered Mind" This is similar to Rodrick Usher's mind right now. He is mentally ill and the lyrics talk about a bad mind by calling it a battered mind.

The narrator rides into the countryside to see his mentally ill friend, usher, and when he arrives at his Mansion. Edgar Allan Poe writes "I reined my horse to the precipitous brink of a black and lurid tarn that lay in unruffled luster by the dwelling" (Poe 17). This creates a gloomy mood because the imagery uses the color balck to create a glum setting.

Usher, the narrator's childhood friend, freestyles a short song called "The Haunted House". Poe writes, "Banners yellow, glorious, golden, On its roof did float and flow". This shows an example of Euphony because this stanza conveys a sense of beauty. It creates intricate sounds that are pleasing to the ears.

Poe includes this song in the story because the palace at the end of the poem represents Usher's house. They both have a gloomy aura. For example, "I reined my horse to the precipitous brink of a black and lurid tarn that lay in unruffled luster by the dwelling" (Poe 17). The usher has a melancholy mood just like the place at the end of the story.

Poe writes, "But the under of the huge masses of agitated vapor" (Poe 17). The inclement weather of the vapor causes suspense by creating an eerie mood and that something big going to happen.

Poe writes "The once occasional hunkiness of his tone was heard no more" (Poe 11).
What is the thematic message of The Fall of the House of Usher?

the thematic message of The Fall of the House of Usher is that insanity will be caused if you're alone. "There was a long and stormy shouting sound — and the deep black lake closed darkly over all that remained of the house of usher" This represents how Usher's mind has been destroyed or gone because he died. The house breaks down when the usher dies. The house feels very sad and lonely just like Usher.
