I fear that my frustration at the industry (culture, format,Netflix etc) and fear of not having worked for 18 months whilst caring for my mum is skewing my sights...changing seems like an easier solution than trying to remedy what seems un-surmountable? the industry is making less meaningful work for Tv platforms, and this makes for added difficulty in terms if finding meaning in what I do..

Thank you so much for the session yesterday, it was very enlightening. I particularly loved the questionnaire about whether we are ready to make the career switch.
I hoped the workshop will give me the inspiration and impetus to pick up the career switch process, and instead I came away from the session yesterday with this dialogue running through my head: ‘well, it’s alright for Pamella to succeed, she’s so full of energy, sparkly, a people person - I’m not like that, it won’t work for me.’

Hi! I would like to look at self condience techniques/tools as having started to do some work on myself I realised that I really lacked the ability to beleive in myself and what I could bring to any role. This hasn't been helped by a lot of bad exepereinces, the people I have met in production and the general lack of support, opportunities and being overlooked can present. Its hard to not moan about all the inequalities that exisit in the industry but how best can I turn my negatives into positives and move forwards with confidence and feel more in control and believe in my abilities.

Hi Pamela, following up on my earlier Q in the session, I think my main concern is that, after pushing past finding socmed somewhat tedious and distracting, I don't have an online network now, whereas everyone in the world has built an online presence, is it possible to do so from scratch? The thing I am finding most difficult having had two careers already is how to make sense of what I have done so far. How can I move into my third change and find some continuity in my expereinces that I use to show a potential new employer. I don't have the necessary skills when I read job descriptions trying to find any links from previous jobs that I can demonstrate that I have what a company if looking for is hard, particulary when I'm not quiet sure where I want to pitch myself in my new career. I have ideas or where I might like to work but not sure I have the attributes to make it.

Hello Pamella,

I still have trouble uploading anything to the Google doc. Also, there didn’t seem to be an exercise related to networking, and this is what my question is related to.

First of all, I loved that session, I realised I do much more of it than I thought! For example, I have made a list of all the contacts I have, in categories, and I have about 1,600 contacts! I made the list for crowdfunding purposes, to send all of them invitation to donate. I will connect with closer contacts personally ahead of the mail out before crowdfunding starts. I am not sure how to approach connecting with people I don’t know that well, how to craft that email, or what other ways to engage them in. Any advice and support would be great!

Hi Pamella,

A lot of the examples today have been about potential moves within a company or making use of the resource they have. Have you got any thoughts/advice for those who aren't in a role currently/freelancing who can't tap into those routes?

My other question is how to work out which direction you want to go? I think I know I want to make a functional change, but am between two paths - how best to work out what my current transferable skills may lead towards?

Hi Pamella,

I have managed to get a couple of interviews in the industry I want to move into. However, I didn't get further in both and my feedback came down to them believing I was overqualified.

This is puzzling as when I look at job descriptions for jobs higher than this it is very clear I don't meet the criteria in terms of "Must have 3+ years experience producing X and Y content".

Have you ever felt your abundance of experience has actually put employers off? I have tried to start leaving my more senior experience off my CV in these cases but am now getting feedback that I don't have the sufficient experience.

Is there something else I can be doing? Am I framing my experience in the wrong way?

I wanted some advice on making connections and reaching out to people in the industry or area that you want to work in. I have approached people through Linked In and then the connection doesn't continue and you feel like you are hounding someone to get information or a job! How do you approach people in a new field and get them to help you without feeling like you are haselling them!

When TV interviews are called a chat and often very informal and without a structure, how do prepare for these? Often they are very short notice and there is very little information given about the programme or role, you are just put on the spot either on the phone or via zoom and you feel unprepared and rushed.
