The first stage of Erikson's Developmental theory is Trust vs. Mistrust. This stage is very important because babies have to form intimate relationships to be able to trust and mistrust to protect themselves. I spoke with my mom about how I was as an infant and she said I was very picky about who held me. She stated majority of the time her, my dad, or my grandmother were the only people I was comfortable with. Anyone else I would cry until I got with who I wanted to be with.

The 2nd stage of Erikson's development theory is Autonomy vs Shame and doubt. This stage is about becoming powerful and independent, during this stage children are starting to toilet themselves, dress themselves, and just learn how to do more on their own. My mom explained to me how when I was around these ages I was potty trained at 2 and 1/2 years old, she said she never put to much pressure on me to dress myself but, she said I had no problem learning certain things on my own.

The third stage of Erikson's development is Initiative vs Guilt. During this stage children are learning to attempt new tasks, come up with activities with friends, and use new skills in play. They're learning that they can exert power over themselves and the world. While talking with my mother and having a slight memory of my own I remember when I was about 6 years old I would always try to boss my little sister around and take initiative while we were playing together.

The fourth stage of Erikson's Developmental Theory is Industry vs. Inferiority. During this stage a child's social world expands and as they enter school and gain new friendships with peers. Children are able to develop a sense of pride and competence in their abilities. This stage can be vital for building self confidence. Growing up during this stage I can say I had a lot of support to help me and my mom was there to help me with a lot which helped build my self confidence.

Stage 5: Identity vs. Identity Confusion

Stage five of Erikson's developmental theory is identity vs identity confusion. During the stage you are becoming a young adult and starting to wonder who you are and maybe start going through insecurities trying to fit into society. Identity involves the experiences, relationships, beliefs, values, and memories that make up a person's subjective sense of self. As I became a young adult and still am, I often have thoughts to myself like "who am I" or "What am I doing?" I know it's a part of the growing up process and I just take it one day at a time.

The sixth stage of Erikson's developmental theory is intimacy vs isolation. During this stage between the ages of 19-40 you are starting to wonder "will I be loved or will I be alone?" At this time you are developing meaningful connections, romantic relationships, positive relationships with family and friends. Isolation can be scary it can be caused from childhood experiences, divorce, past relationships, fear of commitment and much more. I am now 22 and I can say I've experienced ups and downs so far during this stage. I know there is more to come and I try to prepare myself for certain situations in certain relationships.

Stage 7: Generativity vs. Stagnation

The seventh stage of Erikson's developmental theory is generativity vs stagnation. This is during middle adulthood, this is when you start to wonder how can you impact the next generation, how can you make a change. Contributing to society, nurturing things that will outlast you, and doing things to promote for the future generation. Stagnation might be when you feel like a failure, you feel as if you have no way to impact the future generation or being self-centered. I have not experienced this stage yet but, I do notice it in my grandparents they make sure to contribute to the future generations and society by doing great things and being a good example.

The eighth stage of Erikson's developmental theory is integrity vs despair. This stage is during late adulthood. During this stage you are looking back at your life wondering if you had a good life, remembering accomplishments and accepting your old life. With despair you may look back on life with regrets, shame, or disappointment. I have not yet insured this stage but I used to work at a nursing home and I had residents who would talk about the good in their old life and I also had some who seem as I they wish they could do their life over.
