It is not completely known where William Byrd was born, he is believed to be born in Lincoln in England 1543, but it is known he spent much of his early life as a a pupil (a student) of Tallis (another composer) in London. From 1563 through 1572 Byrd spent his time as an organist and was in charge of choirs. In 1570 he became a chapel royal, a group of priests and singers that traveled with the royal family. Byrd and Tallis were able to get a license and sell lined paper and pieces of music. Byrd and Tallis created their first piece of music in 1575 called "Cantiones, quae ab argumento sacrae vocantur" which translates to "Canticles, which are called sacred from their theme". This song was dedicated to the Queen. Throughout the 1580's Byrd received several fines, which the queen gave certain grants to. Tallis died in 1587, Byrd was given full access to the shared patent they had. Byrd created many pieces of music until he died. Byrd had died in at Stondon Massey, Essex. This was the location he spent the last 30 years of his life. William Byrd supposedly lived to 80 years of age. (Bergin And Speake) (William Byrd Britanica)

Byrd wrote compositions for most popular music genres at the time. His work influenced many other english composers. These include John Bull, Giles Farnaby, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Tomkins, Thomas Morley and likely many more. Thomas Morley was William Byrds pupil as Byrd was to Tallis. Byrd was also a huge influence on church music. Infact Cantiones Sacrae was mostly designed for the Chatolics. (William Byrd Britanica)
