Today I had my first observation! The school's name is I.C.B.L.E. and is the same institution where I did Kindergarten level. 
The students are in 5th grade and didn´t know about me yet because their teacher of English was absent for some days. So, she explained them that I’ll be there for some classes to observe them because I’ll become a teacher. 
The children are very nice! They said hello to me and some of them gave me a kiss!. They are a group of 25 students.  They have lessons of 35’, twice a week and study English in another room so the teacher and I waited for them. Due to this, the lesson started almost 10’ later . In general, the group participate actively but there are different levels of English since some students come from other institutions that don’t have the language.  In addition, the children are very talkative so the teacher had to ask for silence several times. She speaks English almost all the time, but in some moments she translates  to Spanish when children don’t understand anything or when they misbehave.  Today, the teacher made a revision of vocabulary about emotions and then, introduced some words about food. She stuck some flashcards on the board and the children repeated the words. Then, she introduced the structure: “I would like to eat….” And asked each child to say what he/she would like to eat. She did the same with: “ I don’t like…..” Finally, the teacher asked the students to open their folders and write a sentence using the previous structure.  When the students finished writing , the teacher told them that they could leave the class.  
Regarding the physical space, the room is very small, some desks are close to the board so there is not much space to move there.

I have a lovely observation today!. This time I sat on the teacher’s desk so I could see the children's faces. The lesson started five minutes later since students were in a break. The teacher used the course book (Kids Web 5) to introduce the topic “I’m hungry” and the students participated a lot. This is a positive aspect because,  they answered questions either in English or Spanish. The teacher used strategies such as eliciting, miming, and sometimes she translated words or asked children to translate the meaning of some words. Then, they did only one activity from the book. They had to stick some stickers on the corresponding place after reading some short bubbles about food. It took them almost fifteen minutes to complete it! The teacher didn’t put a time limit to do the activity. In addition, the children who finished the activity before their mates started chatting or they stood up. However, the teacher did nothing about that.  Besides, there wasn’t a closure of the lesson or farewell. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to help some children with the activity and it was wonderful!.  They like to be corrected and that the teacher puts a tick on their work. 

Aspects to take into account:  
I’m very worried about timing since the lesson is very short and doesn’t start on time. I’m afraid that I’ll only give the students one or two activities. Until now, they performed only one activity. Regarding discipline, I’ll try to keep students sitting on their chairs so that they don’t disturb their mates. There are a couple of boys that always get distracted and don’t want to work.

As usual, the lesson started five minutes later. Today, the teacher made a revision of food vocabulary with flashcards. Sometimes, she described the picture and the children had to guess the name of the food. After that, she explained the numbers using the course book and a projector.  Students did choral repetition and then, they performed two activities from the book. In the first activity, they were given the numbers in letters and they had to color the corresponding number (They had three options). Once the finished the activity, some of them passed to the front and colored the numbers on the board. In the second activity, students listened to some numbers and wrote them in letters and in numbers. They listened to the numbers twice. The second one, the teacher stopped the recording after each number, because some children couldn’t complete it. As some of them didn’t remember well how to write the numbers,  I could help them. However, they didn’t finish the activity so they took it for homework.  

Students are eager for my teaching practices. Each class, they ask me if I am going to teach them. And I’m very anxious!.

Today the students were terrible! They were talkative and shouted a lot! It was difficult for the teacher to control them. One of the students stood up on a chair!. At the beginning of the lesson, they corrected an activity from the previous class. Then, they performed a listening activity but the children were extremely excited! Some of them didn’t work at all, but they are always the same. Owing to this, the teacher didn't oblige them to work.

 I feel really nervous for my first class! I’ll have to keep an eye on timing because lessons are very short!.

As usual I was very nervous and anxious for my first lesson!. Right at the beggining, the teacher told the students that it was my first class, so the lesson began some minutes later. Children were very happy and excited! They are very nice! In the warm-up and presentation stage, they participated actively. Then, they worked  in two activities very well, though some children couldn't finish the last one. While doing the activities, I monitored and guided them, especially, students who have low level of the target language.

Aspects to improve: I need to have more control of the class since sometimes students weren't paying attention or they were speaking among them. Then, I have to take into account timing, so that students can finish all the activities on time. 
However, I'm very happy for my first lesson!

Today, the lesson started almost 10 minutes later because students were in another class, and in our classroom there was another group. I used the projector to play two videos and I have to say that it's fantastic!. Students really liked them and after watching the first video, at the presentation stage, they answered to my questions with enthusiasm. Students performed two activities. In the first activity, we used the course book. They completed a short dialogue, but it took them some minutes  to do it due to low-level students. The second was a listening activity about a dialogue at a restaurant. The students listened to it twice. The second one, I had to stop the recording several time so students can complete the dialogue. ( As their teacher does). Unfortunately, we couldn't perform a roleplay due to the lack of time. However, students worked hard and participated  in the activities. 

     What do you find useful of this lesson that will help you plan the next one?
Definitely, I have to improve timing because the lessons are very short. In addition, some students need more guidance and help that others, so the activities become longer.

Today we have a dynamic lesson! The topic was "How much is it" so as we are studying food vocabulary, I used the projector to introduce a "menu"  Children participated and pass to the board to complete some missing prices. Then, they performed an information gap activity. I helped those students who didn't remember well the numbers. However, they worked hard and used L2.

   What aspects of the lesson do you consider successful?
I think that students feels motivated to produce chunks of language even shy children. I encouraged them to do it, and they made a great effort! I also consider successful the fact that in the information gap activity most of the students used L2. However, there are some students with low level of English that needed my help but finally they could complete the activity.

  How did the students react to your teaching, to the activities and the materials? How did they react to the lesson?
During my teaching students' interaction was great! They answered my questions and they felt engaged with the activities that they performed. At the presentation stage, they enjoyed passing to the board to complete some gaps in the menu. In addition, they liked working in pairs to perform an information gap activity.

In this lesson, students performed a test though they didn't know about it. The teacher of the course doesn't want to tell the students about the test, so that they don't get nervous and feel stressed. So, they worked with enthusiasm  and completed all the activities. Since the group is very heterogeneous, I provided guidance and help to those students with low level of English. After finishing the test, we corrected it orally. However, the students, one by one, asked me to correct their activities.

In this lesson, students continued performing a test. In the warm-up, I used real food with prices to explain pounds and pennies. Students had to say the price and then, they passed to the board to stick the price next to the corresponding price written in words. It's amazing how they enjoyed participating in the activities!. All of them raised their hands to pass to the front. Each lesson becomes better and better! And I also enjoy it! Then, as they were doing the activities in the test, I helped those children who have difficulties with the language.

I am very happy and feel gratified that students respond to the material and activities very well and with a positive attitude. We established a warm bond. In the warm-up and presentation stage, they are always engaged and interested in the topic, teaching points and material that I show them. This lesson started some minutes later. Today, I introduced 'Healthy and unhealthy food' and as usual, all  the students wanted to pass to the board to stick some flashcards and label the pictures. We had a lovely lesson with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Students performed one activity but unfortunately,  they couldn't play a boardgame because of the lack of time. Anyway, they will play the game the last class. When I told them that the next class would be the last one, they became sad!

Students really enjoy the warm-up and presentation stage. They like participating and interacting with me, when I ask them questions. They are interested in the activities and enjoy working on the board. 
I think, they are not used to passing to  the board since most of the time they work with their coursebook.

We had an exciting day! First, we talked about the food groups, watched a video song and sang it! Students enjoyed it and participated in labeling  the food groups on a pyramid that was displayed on the board. They gave their opinion about what food is healthier. To end the class, they played a boardgame in groups of four.  must say that they had a lot of fun with this game. They were really excited! The game included the structures studied during my practice and they could perform it very well! The rules of the boardgame were clearly understood because I used the proyector to display it on the board , explained and demostrated the game with a student. Finally, I gave them some presents and they hugged and kissed me. They didn't want I to leave them! They showed me all their love!. It was very moving!
I'm really happy with this experience and enjoyed it a lot! 
The teacher was also happy with my lessons and responsibility to the extent that I' m going to work as a substitute teacher because she will travel soon, so I'll take all her grades.
