I have a lot of mental health issues, and my two cats are really important to me as emotional support. For me, hearing and feeling them purr while they lay on me is incredibly reassuring - it's sort of like a multi-sensory reminder that I'm genuinely loved by someone, even if it's just a cat. I tried to recreate the feeling of laying in bed with my cats, starting by making some EQ adjustments to raise up the low frequencies. Then I applied some soft, room-scale reverb. In particular, I have a major sensitivity to sound, and even MORE specifically - I really, REALLY can't stand the sound of plastic bags crinkling. So naturally, I started with that sound. Then I EQed it to raise the highest, most unpleasant frequencies while dropping everything else. Then I applied a delay, so that the already horrible sound layers over itself. And for good measure, I went ahead and bit crushed it too. Making this was an exercise in self-harm. I hate this more than anything I have ever made in my life.
