Irena sendler was a Social worker who was polish, what she was known for is smuggling Jewish kids out of the grotto during the holocaust. She was also a nurse and apart of the nazi resistance.

Irena sendler was born February 15th 1910 and sadly died May 12th 2008. Before her death she was arrested and tortured by the gestapo which is the German secret state police, she was sentenced to death but escaped this happened in 1943. After Zegota help her Irena continued to work under her and changed her identity.

How was she able to do it?

Irena was able to smuggle children by knocking on doors in the Warsaw ghetto and asking parents /grandparents to give up their children so she would be able to smuggle them out. She disguise as a nurse and she would give the kids a polish name and identity papers. She then sent them to foster care, orphanages or convents .

This is what was said by Irena I feel this was very powerful because this is something people didn’t think was normal and that she was so powerful for doing what she did even if it was risking her getting caught. But she didn’t think this she knew that everyone deserved to live and this was very normal.
