Begin by describing the cause(s) and effect(s) you found in the paragraph(s) you chose. (2+ sentences)

Cause: Oral history (or narrative) has been almost totally replaced by mass media broadcast.

Effect: Therefore, broadcast communication has become such a fixture in the realms of economic decisions, political outcomes, and moral reasoning.

Connect those cause(s) and effect(s) to consumerism. How does it affect/relate to consumerism? (2+ sentences)

The desire/need for broadcast communication is so great that, even when the US was facing the height of its last temporary economic decline, the money spent on TV advertising was over $50 billion dollars. Broadcast communication has become one of the biggest forces in the consumerist society, as is shown through the amount of money spent on TV advertising targeting consumers.

Reflect on how the cause(s) and effect(s) of consumerism affect you. (2+ sentences)

The constant stream of advertising, whether on TV or on the computer, continually puts new, "improved" products on my radar trying to convince me that the product that I have is somehow faulty or dated. Because of the fact that ads can be personalized based on search history, I am usually easily convinced. The only thing keeping me from spending money on the things advertised is that I have no money to spend on them. And also, you can usually find a cheaper version on Ebay.
